Summary of your idea
Botswana is a small and developing country with a population of approximately 2 million. In Botswana there is a shaft mine called B.C.L mine that mines copper/nickel. During the process of smelting, coal which is a fossil fuel is burnt to produce highest temperatures of about 1085C to melt copper. This process emmits a lot of smoke in the atmosphere. The emmited smoke comprices of high quantities of sulphur dioxide due to the burning of coal. To me this smoke seem useful and can be recycled to make a very useful products. In this case my idea is to plan a Contact Process Plant in this mine which i am going to use this smoke to manufacture one of strong acids called Sulphuric Acid. Sulphuric acid is more useful as it is used as an electrolyte in lead-acid storage in car batteries to produce electricity, needed in large amounts by students to be used during experiments in the labs, used in the production o fertilisers e.g superphosphate of lime and ammonium sulfate and also to make synthetic detergents, dyes and pigments. My idea is mainly aimed at reducing effects of acid rains that takes place on plants, buildings and vehicles due to this smoke, to reduce effects of sulphur dioxide on human health and also improving Botswana's economy by selling manufactured sulphuric acid and its products (including fertilisers, synthetic detergents dyes and pigments) to both local and international makerts.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
My idea is very unique in our country because it has never been established and i believe it will meet the needs that have never been met before. My idea is established to meet the following needs: Contribution to people's healthy lifestyle. This sulphur dioxide is very toxic and can cause death with severe irritation of the nose and throat. At high concentrations it can cause life threatening accumulation of fluids in the lungs(pulmonary edema). So recycling this sulphur dioxide can reduce the numbers of patients suffering from the above mentioned disorders and thus reducing money that the government use on medication. Reducing the effects of acid rains. As we all know that acid rains contributes to damage of crops, corrosion of vehicles and houses roofs and also the forests as well. So using this sulphur dioxide which causes acid rain will benefit farmers because they will have a good harvest and lifespan of vehicles and houses will be prolonged because of less damage that is caused on the roofs in which it is a major transformation. My idea will also help in economic diversification and foreign exchange in Botswana. Botswana keep on having economy pulldowns due to many reasons and my idea is aimed at help diversifying the economy by selling of sulphuric acid and its products both locally and internationally. On the other hand the government will going to use less money on patients due to the reduced numbers of patients at the hospitals. This will be because the agent of unhealthy lifestyle (sulphur dioxide) is reduced in the atmosphere.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The business is going to operate with the help of partners who are interested of becoming the shareholders in the company. In a shareholder business model, a company only addresses the needs and concerns of four compartments which are: investors, employees, suppliers, and customers; with investors and customers receiving the most attention. A company that uses the shareholder approach to conducting business typically views the impact of business operations on profit. So this usually means the shareholders as part owners will push for company actions that increase their own financial returns resulting in successfull business operstions. The business will benefit most of the firms in Botswana and the rest of the world. The targeted firms are the ones that deals with manufacture and distribution of car batteries, packaging of sulphuric acid for schoools and also will benefit those firms that cleans rusty metals using these strong acids. This business will operate to meet the needs of all the people around the world. (internationally)
