Summary of your idea
Johari is Swahili for jewelry. I love jewelry and I am interested in selling traditional jewelry from Kenya to customers around the world. Johari is intended to create market for various traditional jewelry artist and salespeople in Kenya who do not have enough income to create and sell jewelry on their own. Through Johari, I am looking to find worldwide customers since the idea was inspired by foreign tourists in Kenya. Although not a non profit, for every $2,500 Johari makes, a portion of it will be used to pay school fees to a deserving student in primary school, secondary school or college. Last but not least I hope to alleviate poverty through Johari and promote fun and creativity among the youth through the process. Johari is here to stay!
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
To promote diversity, inspiration and creativity while alleviating poverty and educating students. Johari is an enterprise that I hope will eventually grow into an international traditional jewelry producer and supplier.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Currently, Johari jewelry is bought and shipped from Nairobi, Kenya. I am looking to enlist financial support from various microfinances and philanthropy groups as I currently finance the buying and shipping of jewelry. I am also seeking to secure help from my family and committed friends.
I am a Kenyan citizen and currently an undergraduate student in the US. I am very assertive and I enjoy international relations and promoting diversity.
