Summary of your idea

The main objective is to decrease the energy dependecny of a role model campus which is the campus of Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane by using sustainable energies and technologies like: roof mounted PV system, thermal insulation, LED lighting, distrcit heating using wood, and reed bed filter for recovering water and nutrients.

Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development

Targets: - Decrease the energy independency by producing it via the use of sustainable energies and technologies. - Lower the energy bill. Measures: - 30% energy savings by implimenting energy efficiency measures: thermal insulation and LED. - 15% energy saving by installing a district heating system. - 45% of electricity will be generated by the roof mounted PV system/ - 9000 tons of CO2 will be saved.

Plans for implementation and sustainability

The revenues of this project will be made by not buying energy and by selling the excess electrcity produced. The customer is the university. For the collaborators, there is the Institut für angewandtes Stoffstrommanagement (IfaS) and AUI. They will help in finding donors or loans with low interest rates from development banks. I am in contact with some companies who want to export their technologies to Morocco and want to start by this campus.

Your profile

I am pursuing a dual master degree: Master of Engineering in International Materials Flow Management in Umwelt Campus Birkenfeld in Germany & Master of Science in Sustainable Energies Management in Morocco. Motivation: Morocco depends heavily on fossil fuels. This situation impacts the trade balance of the country. Morocco should look for other solutions to secure its energy demand. The Zero Emissions and the Circular Economy, two emerging concepts, seem to be the right solution. Thus, this project chose to start by a relatively small system which is the heart of any society; this system is the university. Qualities: - Conduction of a feasability study for the installation of an 18 MW wind farm in LAFARGE Morocco (internship) - Developing Renewable energies and Energy Efficiency projects in Morocco (Internship in IfaS)
