Explain your project in details:
The feed additive that we produce is produced by using microalgae (Chlorella, spiriluna) known as single-celled algae as an alternative to its equivalents that are obtained from plants and yeasts. With their rich protein, vitamin and mineral contents and their antibacterial properties, microalgae will help the immune systems of fish be strengthened and reduce their rate of catching bacterial diseases as a result of the bioactive properties. Therefore, while the production performance of fish farms is increasing, the cost will be reducing. As species such as Chlorella, Spiriluna that we work on are easy to be raised in culture medium in a cost-efficient manner, it will be a more affordable product compared to its equivalents. Therefore, the expenses of breeders for the combat with diseases will be reduced. Besides, as it will be in organic and natural form, it will be an environmental-friendly product. We also aim to get organic product certificate with these properties of our product.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Aquaculture is directly or indirectly used for the purpose of nourishment. Accordingly, health and welfare of the bred fish is rather important for human health. We aim to reduce the fish rate of catching diseased by 40% with our feed additive that strengthens the immune systems of the aquaculture. For the population of the world to be raised in good health and to provide healthy food for the future generations, we realize new perspectives and activities. We will extract from the living beings already present in nature and present the solution organically, as the effect of equivalent chemical examples of business idea output. Since our business idea is a natural product, there will be no adverse effects on the health of the fish and the human health as it will not cause any side effect and chemical residue risk, and the amount of synthetic antibiotics to be used will decrease so that the residues and side effects will decrease in the same place. At the same time, it will be an environmental product without creating a risk of waste on the aquatic ecosystem in the region where it is used. t is aimed to use the chlorophyll part which is microalgae after the production of the antimicrobial substances, as a microbiological fertilizer and soil nutrient in the field of agriculture. When chlorophyll parts of microalgae are given to the soil and plant, the chlorophyll-containing fertilizer will activate by the effect of water and sunlight, bring out the nutrient elements, revitalize the soil and contribute to the improvement on the applied plants and soil. With the sale of this product, it is aimed to generate side income for the company to be established.
Sustainability and future plans
Directly having contact with industrial and organic aquaculture, by granting franchise and sales offices, we aim to directly reach the producers. Furthermore, it is also aimed that we participate in periodically held aquaculture fairs where our potential clients are also present. Target Market, The amount of aquaculture in world is approximately 63 milion ton/year. Total sum spent for antibiotics in aquaculture in world is around 2 billion dolar. The antibacterial product that we will develop is suitable for all fisheries bred in aquaculture sector. Antibacterial products used in the fight against fish diseases constitute a market share of 2 billion USD. It is aimed to reach 1% of the sector in the next year after the end of the project by evaluating the results of customer verification and interviews conducted prior to the business project and foreseeing that this ratio reaches 5% in the second year. Each year we aim to increase the number of businesses in the target sector and to have a market network that exceeds 20% in the aquaculture market where immunity-enhancing feed additives and equivalent products are found after 5 years and in the organic fish farming sector we aim to realize 50% of market share.
Your profile as an entrepreneur
It was founded by Yalçn Mete Cokun, who is an aquaculture engineer. Yalçn Mete has the experience of R&D Projects and product development in biotechnological processes and the subject of microalgae. He is 29 years old. Aqualg Biyoteknoloji, was founded by receiving public funding support (from Tubitak) as a start-up company developing innovative antibacterial feed additives including microalgae oriented towards bacterial diseases in aquaculture. We aim to provide economic, natural and environmentalist solutions to problems occurring in aquaculture sector due to diseases and we conduct our research and development activities within this scope. The use of artificial antibiotics and other chemical antimicrobial additives for the combat against diseases in animal breeding; and the fact that these medications and chemical additives harms the animals and ecosystem and forming remnants in the animals, which results in a threat.
