Mobile Solar Pump
Explain your project in details:
SunCity has embarked on this project to achieve its vision of providing sustainable and clean energy sources for low income farmers. There is a genuine need for a reliable alternative to conventional diesel pumps used for irrigating fields by million of farmers across the globe. Development started with community and stakeholders consultation to understand the problem and expectations of farmers and their expectations of new solutions. Upon defining performance requirements, SunCity started manufacturing and testing of the prototype employing the local workforce and using existing resources. Testing and modification continued for about two years to reach the planned satisfactory performance required by farmers. This phase helped in establishing reliable supply network of local and international partners who offer the component we require with the right technical specifications.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
After 2 years of testing and development, SunCity managed to deliver an innovative and efficient Mobile Solar Pump that has the features and capabilities to compete with conventional, dirty diesel pumps used for irrigation. The pump has the features and capacity to irrigate up to 2 acres everyday without any need for diesel or operating cost. The pump harness clean solar energy to power a 1.5 horsepower surface pump. Farmers who depend entirely on seasonal rainfall will be able grow crops all year around using solar energy. For each 1000 unit we build and sell SunCity will: 1- create 10 local clean jobs, 2- cut carbon emissions by about 24 thousand tons, 3- Save millions of Dollars of operating costs that will end up in the pockets of small farmers, 4- replace conventional diesel pumps. This innovation has won several international prizes and recognition from the United Nations, French Tech Ticket, Global Entrepreneurship Summit and others.
Sustainability and future plans
SunCity adopts sales profit model where the company makes profit out of a sales cap over the cost price. The profit margin is about 20% and is calculated to go higher upon mass production. In our effort to grow sales and facilitate payment for small farmers, SunCity is looking for partnership with local agriculture banks and international funding organizations to build a suitable funding channel for small farmers. Leveraging this funding mechanism is a time consuming process that is expected - when done - to deeply impact the sales of our pump.
