DEAL Foster Care Ethiopia
Explain your project in details:
Children show complex post-traumatic stress disorders, conduct disorders, sexual behavior disorders and other mental health problems due to inactive follow up from a responsible guardian. This may be due to incapability of a guardian to provide the basic needs to the children, like adequate food, shelter, medical care, education and proper supervision for the child. The above stated problems, results to children going out for the streets, child prostitution and child trafficking. I want to establish a temporary care system while parents get help sorting out problems, or to help children or young people through a difficult period in their lives. My innovative idea is to create a transitional placement center for children who don’t have people to look after them. This center will help children feel safe and comfortable by providing activities and nutritional meals with the help of the foster families
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
My solution provides unprivileged children to experience the love, attention and support one child should get as he/she grows. Children are the core ingredient to a better, civilized well refined country. “While I was in foster care, I was blessed with a more pleasant experience. I had the luxury of living with a beautiful family. Foster care gave me the opportunity to go to college. Being a first generation college student, you can only imagine how much that means to me. I was going down a wrong path, obviously not by choice, and my foster family gave me the structure I needed to succeed in society and make something with my life. They provided the love and support I lacked.” Said Odyssey from the US.
Sustainability and future plans
Your profile as an entrepreneur
By profession I am an engineer but am currently am working as a Public Relation Officer in Rohobot Home Based Health Care Service. My stay at this company have had helped me in so many ways. It helped me to develop my leadership and management skills. Since I was a little kid, seeing children on the street makes me wonder where their parents are and why they won’t take care of them. So I always wanted to be the heroine and save the day. I wanted to share what ever am having. I wanted them to have a supporting, loving and caring family. I have always thought, establishing this organization as a very long term plan in the future. Two years ago I was watching this movie at home and the movie was about two kids with no mother and a dad in prison. These kids faced so much trouble. And finally they found a house with families and they didn’t have to live like before anymore. That got me thinking. How many more are out there who seeks what these kids just have? So this story inspired me and gave me a push towards pursing this idea.
