Raok International Foundation. "Improving the lives of vulnerable children"
Explain your project in details:
Raok International Foundation is a non profit organization unlike any other in Ghana. We are the solution to breaking the cycle of poverty and thus the intergenerational repetition of low educational attainment, teen parenting, child abuse, criminality and violence. Children who have experienced trauma or who live in extreme poverty experience a lack of general equality and opportunity. They also face the absence of critical resources needed for healthy development. Our mission is to help our nation's most vulnerable and underprivileged children. These are children living in slums and in high risk environments. We teach them to develop good relationships, set goals and learn skills that are necessary to break the cycle of child abuse, domestic violence and extreme poverty to become contributing members of our society. Our relationship based service model addresses the needs of the most vulnerable and underprivileged children, empowering them to move beyond their circumstances. With over 5 millions , 37,9 % of children are living in slums in Ghana according to the UN statistics published in 2014. And this year we plan to help over 1000 children with their education, feeding, clothing and with their healthcare. With our unique model we pro actively select kindergartners and students facing the most significant barriers to future success.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Raok International Foundation is making a great impact in the lives of the most vulnerable and underprivileged children in Ghana. We select these children from Kindergarten and from Junior high schools within our Community. We are the solution to breaking the cycle of poverty and intergenerational repetition of low educational attainment, teen parenting and criminality. Teen pregnancy is a socially, economically, physically and emotionally complex issue. Due to extreme poverty in Ghana eight out of ten girls find themselves pregnant at least once before age twenty. With serious consequences at stake ways of preventing this problem is a top priority for us at Raok International Foundation. And we address this issue by educating our girls at Raok about three main factors that are vital in preventing teenage pregnancy. And they are 1. Through Abstinence from sex 2. Through the use of contraception 3. By means of communication. We work with both public and private schools that have a group of high percentage of students in poverty, low reading, low mathematics scores and students with few resources in the school and in their neighborhoods. With our early intervention we enter a child's life by the age of six before any negative behaviours have become ingrained. This enables us to model and instill positive behaviors while the child mind and heart are open. we are committed to giving the children a long term relationship and we protect this obligation even when the children move to another community.
Sustainability and future plans
Our vision is that one day all vulnerable and underprivileged children will have a long term consistent relationship with a caring adult who believes in them. We want to change the way the world views Africa and the way we treats our most vulnerable children in our society. Our mission is to help our nation's highest risk children living in slums and under extreme poverty develop good relationships, goals and learn skills neccessary to break the cycle of poverty, child abuse, domestic violence and become contributing members of our society. At Raok International Foundation we design unique experiences for each of our children that enable them to explore and develop their diverse talents and interests, learn to build vital relationship and life Skills. Our scaling initiative, with our 5years network wide scaling plan is to impact 7500 vulnerable and underprivileged children from 2018 - 2022. 1. Scale existing Raok: we will deepen our impact by strengthening our existing foundation to expand their reach. 2. Scale new Raok & affiliate: we will replicate Raok International Foundation in new communities and embed the model in affiliate organizations. 3. And Lastly scale collaborative partnership, we will provide training and technical assistance and Raok's best practices to partners.
