Timi Rugged Micro School SCHEME (TRMSS) FOR GIRL CHILD EDUCATION
Explain your project in details:
OBJECTIVE to educate adolescent girls/women living in diseased/remote/crisis/rural area or communities in order to reduce girl child illiteracy in rural areas by 90% before 2024 in developing countries through Timi micro school MISSION STATEMENT to be able to acquire loans, participate in farming and policy that affect them , to compete for jobs, to help their family members live a healthier life, to be free from discrimination, forced/early marriage, stereotype and social stigmatization and gender inequality. SUMMARY OF TIMI RUGGED MICRO SCHOOL My main targets are adolescent girls/women and Kids. My geographic coverage for now are Local, Regional and National. Presently in Nigeria, we concentrate in the Northern region where there is stacked illiteracy among girl child. With my team and volunteers, we spend over $300 every Saturdays to reach these young innocent girls in their communities, for transportation, feeding, communication, local guides and district heads. The term micro school is my innovation as it is not practiced in many Africa countries including Nigeria. It is 1:5 class, that is one teacher per 5 pupils. This to ensure adequate care as many of them are just learning to read/write and others are drop outs who require 8 months refresher training to be integrated to formal school. The scheme is an efficient concept for girls who had never been to school. It is carried out right in their communities. In some rural areas, we can have up to 20 site for micro school, requiring 20 volunteers, depending on the girls population. ACTIVITIES- We normally engaged in 30 minutes outreach activities which include campaign for girl child education using district heads as advocacy personnel for trust and acceptability.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
ACHIEVEMENT AND IMPACT We have made progress in Sokoto State-Gada LGA, Bauchi State-Toro LGA and Kano State-Garum Mallam LGA where over 100 girls now have access to educational materials for the first time, others, school uniforms for the first time. We teach them four subjects-reading, writing , listening and communication. This is in support of the 2030 sustainable development goals which support gender equality in education where there is sharp contrast between boy and girl child education. The greatest challenge facing girl child education in developing countries are poverty, stereotype, culture and beliefs, and this is prevalent in the Northern part of Nigeria, especially in villages. Our resources could not cover wide. There are over 30 more states and African countries to be covered with this scheme. We measure impact using both qualitative and quantitative approach by relying on our baseline from which objective evaluation is carried out. PERFORMANCE INDICATORS 1. Output-Learning implemented Outcomes-Increased in female literacy in rural areas 2. Output- Advocacy established Outcomes-Trust and Support created 3. Output-Settlements Identified Outcomes - More female illiterates discovered
Sustainability and future plans
FUNDING SOURCES- Families, Friends and other individuals. SUSTAINABILITY AND FUTURE PLAN- Our outcomes results are being sustained by the Mai ugwas, district heads and parents of the girls. They now want the younger sisters of these girls to be enrolled in school. The results of our activities is a welcome development to this affected communities and they are financially supportive in their little way, this help in further sustaining the result outcomes/outputs of the Timi Rugged Micro Schools scheme in rural areas. FUTURE PLAN- We want to increase the number of days we go out to cover more traditional subjects and to impart more knowledge in the area of agriculture, sport and finance management. We want to make the learning site pupil-friendly in order to meet up with UNICEF learning environment recommendation by providing toilets, water, playing tools like slides and merry-goes-round. We will be introducing an education app and subject our volunteers to more standard training. We involve more donors, governments and NGOs to reach more and make an outstanding impact.
