Act on the Go
Explain your project in details:
The main goal is to drive sustainability action within communities. Our project area is to work in the community to build environmental sustainability through solutions which will help the community in effectively mitigating risks and last not just for the present generations but for future generations as well. One of the ways in which we will drive climate action is to adequately educate the community on environmental issues and the role that each individual can play in alleviating this threat because we believe that people cannot tackle an issue they have no knowledge about. Another of our work under this project is to work on different ways in which communities can build resilience against the threat of climate change through risk mitigation and resource security. The first task that will be carried out will be a clean-up exercise as this will enable us know the community that we are working with to achieve this goal. We believe that this will create an avenue for us to know the community while they also know us too. Another task that will be carried out is educating the community on climate change and climate action. We will work on a routine to teach about different environmental issues through different means ranging from videos, practical work and exercises. In building community resilience, we will work with the community based on threat caused by climate change peculiar to their area. If they are an agricultural based community, we will work with them on how they can convert their organic waste to compost/ fertiliser. This will dissuade the community's reliance on chemical fertiliser which is hazardous not only to human health but to the soil too. Another task we will be working on is to improve the economic growth of the community by creating platforms for energy innovations.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Our pilot project was the ACT ON THE GO this was birthed out of the zeal to keep young girls in Warri out of being pawned for sex. The community girl project in Warri reached out to us that their community had a high number of out of school girls being sold into sex by the parents, so they could fend for the family. This project was then created to enable the young ladies gain various skills especially in the area of turning waste to wealth and adequately tackle the gender inequality Our measures to evaluate success is to continually seek feedback from the community as this will help with the monitoring and evaluation of the project. We also capitalize on holding quarterly meetings with the community to measure what worked, what needs to be worked and what does not work for the people.
