Mobile fundi shall be a platform that shall use inclusive technologies such as SMS, USSD and web to connect skilled workers. Mobile Fundi shall be basically an Uber for home services. Its aim shall be to take some of the hassle out of booking home repairs. The company will hand-pick home maintenance and service people in different categories including heating and cooling, furniture assembly and appliance repair using online reviews. Then it shall connect those people with the homeowner in need of a quick fix. When you sign up for a service such as moving and delivery, Mobile Fundi shall notify dozens of providers in that category, If someone is in your area or has a gap in their schedule, they can pick up the call. In Uganda, 14% of the labour force work in the informal economy1, making it one of the highest global ratios. 70.9 % of the population owns a mobile phone. With these statistics in mind, software solutions start-up Eurosat group of companies ltd shall design Mobile Fundi (expert worker). This service will allow numerous informal and often uncertified skilled workers located throughout the country to register and advertise their services with a basic phone using USSD technology. Mobile fundi shall offer potential customers access to a register of workers sorted by trade, location and experience level. Once a job has been completed, customers shall rate workers, further enriching the database. The main selling points: Customers like the prospect of being connected instantly with the services they need. And providers hope for a steady flow of jobs and fast payment with minimal fuss.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Mobile Fundi focuses on the importance of jobs in the context of Ugandas economic growth. Like for other countries around the world, jobs are essential for Ugandas development because they determine the living standards of individuals and households, Support economic transformation, and promote social cohesion. While Ugandas economy has grown significantly over recent years and will continue to do so into the future, at present, a significant proportion of the countrys population are not benefiting In the urban areas, a significant proportion of the population works in the informal sector, which faces particular constraints that prevent it from achieving high levels of productivity, including limited access to capital, limited support and recognition by the authorities, and limited access to workspaces and other facilities. All the above shall be major issues to be addressed by mobile Fundi. In the first year of operation, the 5 team members at Mobile Fundi is expected to have attracted more than 46K workers to the platform, connecting them to more than 28K customers through a total of 83K contact requests across Uganda .More than Eighteen different trades shall be available on the platform with the 46K workers distributed as follows: Electricians, Carpenters, Welders, Painters, Bricklayer Cook, Mechanic, Air conditioner Technicians, Tailor, TV technician, Plumber and Others, all those shall be distributed among male and female and this shall be in line with promoting the sustainable development goals like economic development, decent work, reduced inequality etc.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Skilled workers and genuine vendors shall register by using inclusive technologies such as mobile app SMS, USSD with the following information: name, gender, trade, location, level of education and experience. The company shall then screen and vet them in categories like solar energy, heating, plumbing, cooling, appliance repair etc. Customers shall download the native iOS or Android or visit website to select the worker they need. The customer shall receive the selected workers contact details by the mobile app web or SMS and shall connect with them. The worker shall perform the requested job and get paid directly by the customer. The customer rates the service provided by the worker in terms of quality, price and time. In order to enable workers and customers to enjoy the service at a limited cost, Mobile Fundi will develop a B2B cross-subsidization model through which it charges external organizations for the following services: Data analysis on Ugandas labour market and informal sector based on workers data, advertising through bulk SMS to the workers or customers database ( hardware shops wanting to sell tools and material in specific locations) , allowing companies to access a pool of workers filtered by trade and location, Online advertising on the website and mobile apps and monthly subscription from vendors and skilled workers registered on the platform.
Iam an emerging guru and experienced electronics and computer engineer aged 29 years in Uganda. I possess 10 years of experience. I was born from a middle class family of two children by Mutebi Muhammadi and Fatuma .My mother died at an early age of 5years and grew up with my uncle Katerega who looked after me up to my youthful stage and trained me hard work at his home paint factory. Iam married and blessed with 4 children. Iam a professional electronics and computer engineer from Nakawa vocational institute. I worked with Eurostar Electronics Uganda from 2009-2013 and became self-employed when I founded my own company and became a managing director at Eurosat group of companies ltd in 2016. My dream of skilling the youth of Uganda and service with significance to the community at a profit always propelled me to become an Entrepreneur. My team is driven by Purpose and passion. I have always had a passion of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. I have a passion of becoming a technology entrepreneur and strong businessman in the region and become beneficial to the society at large. Iam currently the team leader of Eurosat Group. I started this company after resigning and i exhibit various organizational, and management skills. I leader by example, organized and have adopted the art of delegation of task to my subordinates.
