Women for Women
Explain your idea in details:
The main objective of Women for Women would be to make the process of becoming a professional as a woman easier. The website, which will eventually be developed into an app, will allow for young high school girls as well as university students to join a mentorship programme that will connect them with either a university student studying a degree they are interested in pursuing or an established working woman who works in an indusrty that the younger lady is also interested in working in. The problem the mentorship programme will be fixing is that as young women and girls we struggle to meet our goals due to the lack of guidance and support, the programme will be a platform for young girls to receive this guidance and support. Users of the app will also be able to network with like minded people either at events that can be coordinated on the app or on a chatroom provided on the app. As young women one thing we need to get jobs and to be taken seriously in the workplace is professional clothing which, from experience, is very expenisve and unaffordable for individuals who are just coming out of school and do not really have any source of income, the app will provide a platform for the women who are already working and are established to sell their used professional clothing to the younger women who need it for job interviews and to be taken more seriously. The final activity that the app can be used for is for women who are entrepreneurs like myself, can promote their business for a certain price on the app, this will allow for other women to find and suppport businesses that are run by women.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The Women for women app will impact sustainable development by firstly by giving all women a platform to get a head start on their careers by giving them the resources that they otherwise would not have access to, it will encourage more young women to get an education which will allow them to have a good paying and decent career. The resources provided will also allow women to be seen as equal as their male counterparts. The Women for women app will be mainly used by young ladies aged between thirteen and eighteen, women who are currently studing at university or a tertiary education institutions as well as working women who are considered established and professionals.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Currently we are waiting for a quote from a company that assists with the creation of apps. After receiving the quote we can write a full business plan, at the moment we only have a business model and a pitch deck which briefly explains the idea of the app. The construction of the app will most probably be funded by my personal savings as well as investment companies that specialize in investing in tech companies, however the quote will dictate where the funding will mainly come from. Our key partners for this business will of course be our investors, as well as the network platforms on which the app will run from. We want this app to reach all women in South Africa who want to be successful in their careers. At first we will only launch the app to women in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban so that we are able to see how our users react to it, and once we have made a revenue that will allow us to launch it to other women in other cities we will. Our goal is for this app to meet all women in the country however not every one has access to smartphones and tablets, for these young women we need to come up with a solution for them to have access to this app as they are the ones we want to get an education and a good job, with this they can increase the standard of living and in turn reduce the unemployment and proverty rate in South Africa. Once the app is successful in South Africa we will start looking at avenues that will allow us to launch the app to women all over the world.
My name is Singita Chauke, I was born on the 5th of November 1998. Currently I am a student at the University of Pretoria in Gauteng, South Africa and I am studying towards a degree in Entrepreneurship. In the past I have come up with many business ideas that will create many jobs for South Africans and generate a good revenue. Most of these business ideas are resorts and hotels. Recently I have also grown an interest in coming up with business ideas that would operate in the tech industry. What inspired me to come up with the idea for Women for Women is that as a young entrepreneur and woman who wants to be a successful professional, I found that there were many struggles we face such as the lack of guidance, the inability to afford professional clothing, and there is not enough support and recognition for women run businesses.
