Explain your idea in details:
With Koini Africa we plan to disrupt the entire Model for public transportation in africa through the use of electric buses on urban routes around cities starting off with Zimbabwe. We are looking to create a replicable turnkey franchise model for these business, where we source all the vehicles, install the necessary infrastructure and provide the necessary systems to run the business. This will significantly lower operational costs of the business meaning that commuters get access to more affordable transportation. We will the source buses that will be used in service that can then be purchased by any individual investor and then we manage their operation. To give a consistent customer experience and remove lack of experience in the industry as a barrier of entry. This democratises the sector and also makes it more controllable with set standards.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
My Project will impact at least 50000 people in Zimbabwe alone for every one percent of market share we are able get. These people span all socioeconomic backgrounds, ages and sexes. This can reduce their daily cost of commuting by up to 50%, while creating decent employment for thousands more. We will measure the impact of our business by tracking the number of daily riders, and eventually repeat riders, the number of people we employ and the areas we service.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Our business model- We provide supporting Infrastructure (charging stations, Locate and secure suitable bus terminal sites, Provide necessary operational expertises). A private investor will then purchase the buses to service the routes. We make money in two ways we charge for the use of our charge stations, But we will keep the price of energy as low as possible. Secondly we will take a percentage of revenue from the buses from commuters for managing the vehicles operation. Employees get paid from that revenue and then the rest is profit for the investor.
I am 22 years old, born on the 1 of November 1996. I completed My Cambridge A Level's and am currently taking a sabbatical from University studies to pursue a career as an entrepreneur. I was a part of the Enactus Club of the University of Zimbabwe which is where I discovered that business and became extremely passionate about it. This lead me to my current stage working for Impact Hub Harare, ad part of their community department, where I have gained a lot of experience and exposure especially in regards to business development. My main motivation had to have been my want to create my own security in an uncertain country which evolved into a want to create security for everyone else or at least contribute to it. As you can easily find out Zimbabwe has been in an economic slump since no too long after its independence and I saw the need for people to stop excepting intervention from the government and for us to take action as the citizens to make a better Zimbabwe.
