Best Ideas 2019 features all the nominated entries submitted under ‘Submit your Idea’ category. All the entries consist of innovative solutions or propositions for an enterprise that champions the Sustainable Development Goals. They can be on the conceptual, planning, or start-up stage.
Explain your idea in details:
SoPa Tech is a venture aiming at addressing SDGs, Goal 7:- Affordable and Clean Energy and Goal 13:- Climate action. The main objective of SoPa Tech is to reduce carbon emissions and encourage the use of clean energy especially in public transport by re-inventing a Rickshaw (Tuk-Tuk) taxi with inbuilt solar panels. The panels will be the ones powering the engines of the Rickshaw instead of using fossil fuel, they will be fitted on the rooftops of these taxis and the taxis will be used mainly in major cities of Africa.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Research has shown that carbon monoxide is the dominating gas causing Greenhouse effect in the atmosphere. It has been discovered also that urban cities are prone to pollution due to over population caused by migration. Therefore my idea will target firstly the major city of Dar es salaam Tanzania. Statistics has shown that with a population of about 4.5 million, Dar es Salaam is therefore the biggest city in Africa in terms of population, with my idea I expect atleast 50% of the Rickshaws in Dar es Salaam to be using this green technology in the next 5 years. The other 5 years I expect the rest of Africa to have adopted this SoPa Tech idea in its major cities.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The plan is to assemble this Rickshaws in Botswana then export them to Tanzania and the rest of Africa. This will be made possible by collaborating with innovation Hubs, incubator and mentorship programs and obtain grants from investors who are interested in my idea and recognizes its business potential.
