Best Ideas 2019 features all the nominated entries submitted under ‘Submit your Idea’ category. All the entries consist of innovative solutions or propositions for an enterprise that champions the Sustainable Development Goals. They can be on the conceptual, planning, or start-up stage.
Explain your idea in details:
SoPa Tech is a venture aiming at addressing SDGs, Goal 7:- Affordable and Clean Energy, Goal 11:- Sustainable cities and Goal 13:- Climate action. Research has shown that carbon dioxide is the most dominant greenhouse gas in the atmosphere with 75%. Therefore main objective of SoPa Tech is to reduce carbon emissions and encourage the use of clean energy especially in public transport by re-inventing a Rickshaw (Tuk-Tuk) taxi with in-built solar panels. The panels will be fitted on the rooftops to be direct with the sunlight. Solar panels have small units called Photovoltaic cells (PVC) which converts sunlight into electricity when protons knocks out electrons from atoms allowing the to move freely to produce a flow of electricity. The batteries are installed inorder to store the power,so that a tuktuk can cover a certain mileage before it can be recharged.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Research has discovered that urban cities are prone to pollution due to over population caused by migration. Therefore my idea will target firstly the major cities of Lagos,Nigeria, Addis Ababa,Ethiopia and Nairobi,Kenya. Statistics has shown that with a population of about 21.0 million, Lagos is therefore the biggest city in Africa in terms of population followed by Addis Ababa then Nairobi. On the other hand Tuktuks are popular in this cities and deem to be the most preffered mode of transport due to their convinience. With my idea I expect to atleast own 50% of the Rickshaw market in this 3 cities combined in the next 5years.In the next 10 years I expect the rest of Africa to have adopted SoPa Tech technology and using it in its major and main cities.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
SoPa Tech plan to develop a prototype which will be done using skills and expertise of the qualified African youth. Once the prototype is done (tried and tested) that's when we will source for car manufacturing companies internationally that can mass produce our product and we start supplying the car dealer shops. The dealer shops will then sell to individuals whom will use SoPa Tech tuktuks for their taxi businesses. We will have few showroom shops in selected countries where we can show case our products and take orders also for customized products. This will be made possible through collaborations with innovation Hubs, incubators and mentorship programs as well as investors who are interested in the idea and recognizes its business potential.
