The High Thermal Insulation Perpend (HTIP)
Explain your idea in details:
I find the idea to conceive a Perpend that I call the High Thermal Insulation Perpend (HTIP) because of the product thermal insulator properties. The concept is simple as there will be put: plastic and other inorganic non-metal materials from municipal waste inside the vacuum space of my designed perpend. The environmental purpose is to stick the treated inorganic waste inside the walls of all the future buildings and infrastructures made of HTIP in a way that instead of polluting the city, the sea, and the atmosphere; they will be safely stored to minimize the bad impact. The innovation is about using concrete to build the perpend, improving its design, and adding the special material from waste inside. The thermal insulation properties of the buildings made of HTIP will be enhanced and energy consumption due to the cooling system will be reduced. The product is more ecological and will help tackling the waste management issue; it is also practical as it is inspired by the shape of usual perpend made of concrete. The promotion of the product should be accompanied by a global behavioral change sensitization in sorting and reducing waste. HTIP technology will provide more energy efficiency and users will use less of air conditioning and heating systems. The fabrication process begins with collecting the sorted municipal waste, drying the waste, pulverizing the inorganic and non-metallic waste into a solid porous material, doing the composition and molding the perpend, drying the wet perpend, fulfilling the perpend with the solid porous material and sealing it inside, and ends by doing adjustment if needed. The production of the HTIP will also help create decent works to young people.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
I believe the HTIP will bring a revolution in the construction domain because as we can see, thermal insulators can be directly put inside the construction material to make it easier to use. Constructors who have not used thermal insulators before will have no problem using it to bring new assets to their works. Another impact is enhancing the well-being by giving more comfort during hot season without overusing of air conditioning so at the same time helping reduce the energy consumption and improve the energy efficiency of the houses and buildings. The project will reduce considerably the plastic waste pollution as the company will pay to collect them; thus create decent employment as new activities may appear. Also, as the company will be set up and tends to grow, more employees will be needed for the project. In a larger scale, sustainable cities and infrastructures more adapted to climate change will be built. The product is designed similarly to usual perpend in a way that house builders, engineers and architects may easily use the material for their works. The way to evaluate the success is counting and assessing the number of construction using the HTIP technology after the year of implementation of the project.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The promotion of the HTIP will be accompanied with sensitization about climate change, energy efficiency, environment protection and people will be actively solicited to sort, reduce and give a second life to their waste. A pilot project will be put in my country of origin Madagascar to evaluate the success of the project. I dream in a long term to promote the HTIP in a worldwide scale and to transform the company into a multinational to make the greatest impact. In a short term goal, partnership with local companies which are already collecting and sorting the municipal waste will be established. The project remains at its conceptual stage until now and it is the first time I submit it in an international competition such as Youth Citizen Entrepreneurship Competition but systematic work will be done for constant improvement.
