Best Ideas 2019 features all the nominated entries submitted under ‘Submit your Idea’ category. All the entries consist of innovative solutions or propositions for an enterprise that champions the Sustainable Development Goals. They can be on the conceptual, planning, or start-up stage.
Explain your idea in details:
The main objective of this project is to provide chickens profitably over short turnaround cycles. This involves taking care of one day chicks ( improved breads) which can mature in a period of 4 to 5 months. The main task here is to make sure the chicks are fed well every day with the required type of food , the vaccination schedule to be followed well and the environment to be clean every time for the safe living of the chicks. The idea is to have a cycle of chicks which will enable a resident to have a consistent supply of chicks .( The question is how ? as i have stated almost every house hold has hens, but ere kept without profitable plan ; take for example a person can start rearing 30 one day chicks every month . For a period of 5 month the first 30 will be ready for sell and the cycle will be complete . 30 cocks every month that is approximately not less than ksh 25000 . Is this person with ksh 25000 every month poor ? Will he cry over hunger because there is drought? The answer is no.)
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
This project is expandable and it can give more than ksh 100,000 every month . With this there is no poverty , parents will be able to provide quality education and good health to their children. The man target is to an alternative source of living apart from maize farming and cattle rearing which is affected by the charging environment . The project can be evaluated after a period of 4 to 5 months when the first group will be ready to sell and later after every month . This can be done by establishing the profit realized after subtracting the total expenditure from the outcome.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
After the chicken house is well build , the house has to be equipped with feeders , drinkers , brooders for one day chick and nests for mature hens to lay their eggs . Next , one day chick should be purchased from a hatchery at ksh 100 or ksh 50 depending on the type of the breed or having a good number of mature hens for production of your own chicks ( example 20 hens , each can hatch 10 chicks and that will be a total of 200 chicks , of which when taken care well it can give a profit of ksh 150,000 after about 5 months). Thirdly it must be ensured that feeds and vaccinations are available in the store. About financing the project one may decide to start it with the little cash available or be in small group and contribute towards the project. This idea is simple and obvious but the residents are not thinking about it being a profitable thing, so the local authorities can also have a plan to enlighten the people to stop singing the song " no employment in Kenya " and be employer of them self an later employ others, the local authorities can also collaborate with non governmental organization to fund educate and fund small groups in the most affected areas to embrace this project. This will help in eradication of poverty and stop the famous songs of hunger in these areas.
I am Gonah Kazungu Kitsao , i was born in the year 1993 (26 years) in Ganze sub-county , Kilifi county ( KENYA) . i attended my primary school from 2,000 to 2008 at Nzovuni primary school in my village . In 2009 i went to Kilifi township secondary school where i completed in the year 2012. I managed to join Pwani University in 2013 but due to financial problems , it took me five years to complete a four year course ( Bachelor of Education science) . I am now a teacher not yet employed by the government but I have a feeling that people have to change from the way they are now by being innovative and use the small thing they have to make it big . My motivation; No one applied for the place of birth but he/she has the potential to change the status of the place of birth. Even the capital city of Kenya (Nairobi) was once a bush and people changed it to the way it is now so people can also change their status through innovative ideas.
