lets teach Nigeria
Explain your idea in details:
Education in Nigeria suffers from several fundamental issues but income and resident location of ones parent Majorly defines how well children do at school. We believe that this is both unjust and unfair, too many young people are unable to shape their own destiny or develop the skills, passion and career their innate ability merits and this is damaging to our society. In recent years it has been reported that 70% of the student from the income quintile household gain 5 good GCSE (A-C), Compare to 25% of student from the lowest income quintile household. (Joseph Rowntree foundation) this means that only one in 3 children from low income background leave school with basic qualification. Our major objective is to bridge the gap of inequality in education and provide juvenile value to poor children which are mostly pupils in public schools. We want to increase the academic attainment in order to improve choices open to them to succeed in the future. Most public schools in Nigeria have poorly trained teachers, laxity to work, bad attitude to student success, and teachers who are just unable to meet the needs of their student. Our program will give these children opportunities after regular school hour to discuss their academic problem one on one or in small groups with our trained role models.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
We intend to empower people to make Education fair. We will transform our public school by providing them with great teachers and leaders to support them. We aim to: -Get good teachers in public schools where they are needed most. - Support school leadership, so our teachers and pupils will thrive. - Support these public schools with strong networks and a positive environment - Create programs and encourage new ideas to help give the best support to their pupils. - We will make available reading and writing materials to impact in them the habit of expanding their knowledge not only in theoretical aspect but also in practical aspect (after school and holidays practice material). - help combat child labor, juvenile delinquencies and limit the frequency sexual abuse on girl child hawking on me street by engaging them through our program. - We will also create / organize a show for students to give them the opportunity of showcasing.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Lets teach Nigeria is going to be a nonprofit project in order to achieve its aims, I intend to establish a profit making book cafe that will help provide funding for the program other than donations. this cafe will be a new trend of hanging out place, and a popular choice for both young and old people, where they can enjoy coffee, while reading, chatting or playing games with friends. The bookstore cafe will provide good food, books, games, friendly services and safe environment for its customers. Our project aim to train exceptional role models (volunteers) to tutor children from low income backgrounds, in order to help them reach their academic potential. This project will also tackle social inequality. Every volunteer will bring something unique, that will allow us maintain our culture and ethos of excellence. We will not only provide a socially conscious business but also work experience and employment training program for long term unemployed youths in the community. The profit business we intend to establish will allow students from the program who cannot afford their fees and other necessities get proper day time jobs during the weekends to help provide their needs rather than risking their lives hawking on the streets and never having time to study. Our major collaborators would be these public schools, community heads, and several local and international organisations who are willing to make impacts.
