Give it up for Sustainable Cause
Explain your idea in details:
Give it up for Sustainable cause is an idea derived from Give up LPG subsidy implemented in India. Under the scheme rich and affluent people are asked to give up their LPG subsidy and are asked to buy LPG at the market rate. With the same underlying principles we can ask rich and affluent people to voluntarily donate a piece of land or reserve some portion of their land for sustainable cause like planting trees or creating parks or for farming or building rainwater harvesting system or installation of solar panels. This idea if implemented in cities can help us fight pollution in big way. The main objective of this idea is to maintain the green cover especially in big metro cities.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The population is exploding and most of the cities are turning into concrete. Across the world, forest are being chopped in the name of development and groundwater tables are depleting at a faster rate. As the green cover reduces, the effects of climate change become more pronounced resulting in erratic rains and crop failure. The only way to bring back the rains and recharge groundwater levels is to plant more trees. If it used for building rainwater harvesting or installation of solar panels it can help the people of cities in going green.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Implementation of this idea will require the support of the government and people should be taken into confidence that their land will not be misused.
