The noun 'teacher' has always been associated with seniority, while educators, working similarly, are often used to address those who educate. The main objective of TechAR is to encourage a flux of educators globally, not only from adults but also young adults to teach content to those who are less privileged. This will increase social awareness without the need to use additional resources through the introduction of AR and VR technology worldwide. More and more resources are being used up in education, inevitably causing the less privileged to receive 'less'. Through the incorporation of AR, accessible learning materials without any special equipments are immediately available for use to the majority of the target audience - 73 percent of teenagers own a smartphone. The issue on grasping 3D or arduous concepts would be redundant as students will be able to fully experience visualisation and immersion in the subject, encouraging passion and time to incorporate further soft skills in the curriculum. As the business world becomes more globally incorporated, the cyclical structure of poverty becomes more prevalent, and education may be the solution for those who are affected. Virtual reality can be funded and used in poverty-stricken areas by allowing them to not only visit exhibit sites that they cannot reach, but also receive a diverse, interactive education that may include a number of educators, using VR, teaching from other parts of the planet. TechAR will be an innovative platform in expressing solutions to these issues by alleviating the education experience of students and aiding in building opportunities for the disadvantaged to receive a holistic, global education.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
My main target is to ensure a push in the market for VR technology incorporated within areas where schools are not major roles in influencing the development of children, especially in poverty-stricken countries. The circle I hope to influence, I hope, will be change-makers, rather than passive consumers, which are the elements in which the current flawed education system represents. While studying Pedagogy concepts, I hope fun and action-oriented projects would be the highlight within the school curriculum, contrary to a conventional presentation lecture. When production cost has decreased due to improvements in technology, it enables more users to utilise them at a lower cost, an aspect of sustainability. Conversely, when less resources are used to provide a better service or craft a decent education system, sustainable development would become prominent due to decrease in environmental impacts and increase in social impacts of the beneficiaries. This is due to this technological service meeting the proposed targets and having demonstrated the benefits of the idea. Moreover, as time passes, there should be a rise in literacy rate for countries benefiting from the technology and more people pushing towards working for a degree beyond the professional level, or at least have had completed their tertiary education. Since the reconceptualisation of a quality education for sustainable development, teacher training programs have become more prevalent, through TechAR, there should be an increase in interaction between the needs of scholar and the knowledge of the educators, both working towards to increase opportunities in the future.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
This business model can be viewed as a non-profit organisation with a for-profit division, requiring collaborators and sponsors willing to provide the technology to manufacture VR technology in areas that are unable to fund the project. However, organisations or educational establishments who require the technology for AR will be the main sources of consumerism. As AR has already been implemented in a number of phones, the creation of an educational app will be the greatest input in processing an output for finance or capital. Pricing portfolio should be state that prices are set decently, without the need to become a monopoly, but be able to fund the production of VR hardware. Collaboration and decent communication between producers of VR hardware is crucial in order to ensure the lowest volume of resources used to produce high quality hardware, in order to encourage sustainable development.
Turning 16 during the summer, I have experienced an education widespread across different establishments from a public school, home-school to an independent school. Immediately, these constant changes in schools made me realise the flawed, rigid system that some have to endure, which encouraged the idea of TechAR in aid of students and those who are deprived of an supposed education. My main motivation was an experience: shadowing an Eye Specialist Doctor where I witnessed the process of Phacoemulsification; questions that lingered around from the textbook became less pervasive as the 3D conceptualisation made visualisation its adversary, further solidifying my understanding in this aspect of a job. As a student, I see a number of academic predicaments due to the inflexible education system; TechAR's sustainability can benefit from my experiences in understanding the required changes made as the idea stems as a solution to my personal experiences and experiences that I have seen. Holding the Student Advocate position, I have academic awards internationally, receiving a Gold in an International Maths competition for 3 consecutive years, and nationally, receiving a Silver for a national Computing Challenge. Without my personal experiences and compassion, qualities of perseverance would be insipid without curiosity and a hope for a changed system that climbs towards sustainable development with a transformative education.
