Establishing a rural media
Explain your idea in details:
My main objective of establishing rural media is to report on the very neglected rural issues and rural life. Issues (activities) that I would love to cover our food security, environment protection, livestock production, agricultural practice, access and quality to health, education and water in the rural community, cultural practices and superstitious thinking, and justice with regards to land ownership and gender equality. I am planning to employ folk storytelling methods and cartoons for the publication and short text messages via mobiles.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Creating awareness of how the rural community to improve their life is one of primary impact expected but I also envisage that influencing rural policy formulators to engage with the communities and look into their affairs critically.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
There are many local (including government) and international organizations which want to reach to the rural communities. These organizations don't have the means. My media organization will do that job. The government and non-government organizations can sponsor (i.e advertorials), place advertisements, copy sales and subscriptions. Hence would be my source of finance.
I am 34 years old. Born and grown up in a rural Ethiopia and interested to write about rural issues. I have studied journalism and communications and have been practicing journalism for the last five years and taught journalism courses (including agricultural journalism) for 5 years. Most of my writing experience has been related to national politics and I am now fade-up with it. I want to go back to the grassroots and write about issues that affect the poor communities. I believe that engaging in what the majority could impact would bring exponential positive change in the process of fighting against poverty.
