Ecological Community PopulAction
Explain your idea in details:
The objective of this project is to facilitate reintegration of the vulnerable people into society, by encouraging entrepreneurship and job creation. This will be achieved through the provision of´ educational programs and vocational trainings to increase creative skill-building, and strengthening of existing capacities. Another objective is to develop organic and sustainable agriculture to support food and nutrition for community residents, as well as generating economic income through a focus on livelihood creation. For the Ecological Community PopulAction to be a model in innovation, sustainability and social responsibility, technology must be employed in all project dynamics. In order to achieve the first objective, the desired outcome will be that participants have increased their potential, developed skills and gained awareness of the nine intelligences: Logico-mathematical; Linguistics; Musical; Spatial; Corporal-kinesthetic; Intrapersonal; Interpersonal; Naturalist and Existential by implementing educational activities in personal hygiene, health, work-life, culture, leisure, environment, legal issues and social coexistence. The desired outcome for the second objective, is to construct an Ecovilla which will be guided by the principles of usage and growth of renewable energies. A successful end-result will be an intelligent Ecovillage, designed with potable water supply, sanitary sewage, urban cleaning, solid waste management, control of disease transmitters and drainage of rainwater. Through education programs, the Ecological Community PopulAction participants will be educated to the conscious consumption and trained to develop handicraft products through the recycling of garbage and the production of recipes with reuse of fruit and vegetable peels. Education will be provided on spot and through distance learning. People living in poverty will enjoy effective social assistance with dignity and respect, by providing them with housing, work, health care, access to education, culture, sports and leisure, food security, preservation of the environment, awareness of House, Land and Property (HLP) rights, legal issues and sustainable development.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The 'Report of the Special Rapporteur on adequate housing as a component of the right to an adequate standard of living, and on the right to non-discrimination in this context', published in 2015 by OHCHR, informing there are over 100 million homeless and 'it has not been addressed with the urgency and priority that ought to be accorded to so widespread and severe a violation of human rights. Homelessness was not mentioned in the Millennium Development Goals, is absent from the Sustainable Development Goals and has been rarely mentioned in the preparatory work for the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III)'. Target and indicators for success of this project, will be measured by a general decrease in drug use, increased number of employment, economic income and stable housing and shelter solutions. With reference to Housing First, a method by which the vulnerable people have their own house and capacity to maintain themself, the target is that 80% of people remain sheltered 2 years after the end of the program, representing significant savings rates for the government (34% emergency, 66% hospitalizations, 82% detox, 76% imprisonment). This initiative is already being implemented in the USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and some European countries. The goals for adherence and conversion will vary according to preliminary study of the space for building the ecovillage. Civilizing processes, education, democracy, sport, respect for human rights and the cultivation of ethical values provide subsidies for the transformation of the population by providing a model of a social ecological community, rescue, empowerment and protagonism, with opportunities for the construction of personal autonomy within the possibilities and limits of each one.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Through a partnership with the AMA-BRASIL Foundation, which will grant land and part of the material resources, the ecovillage will be built in a strategically selected location so that there is minimal environmental impact and use of renewable energies (using wind and solar). It will be designed in a way that ensures sustainably, with entrepreneurial actions of the participants in the founding of industrial and agricultural companies. A highly technological space, where the residents will bear the expenses for its maintenance, through the income generated in the commercialization of the products and services resulting from the programs of professionalization of the participants in agronomy, gastronomy and handicrafts. Residents will be encouraged to detect and develop innovative solutions for their needs in the following areas: Housing; Agricultural; Construction; Consulting; Culture; Education; Employability; Food Industry / Beverages; Environment; Public policy; Financial services. They will also go through educational programs of civility , personal hygiene and foreign languages. There will be captive fish for consumption by the targeted population and to combat with the predatory fishing of the oceans. Environmental education programs will help planting strategies and good relationship with the environment. It will have a multidisciplinary team in the health area to support the participants' psychiatric and psychological treatments, focusing on child health, maternal health, sexually transmitted diseases and chemical detoxification, as well as nutritional and therapeutic support. There will be a specific program for women and girls, through courses of professionalization and psychological support to violence and sexual abuse, as empowering women and girls hold great opportunity for sustainability and long-term impact.
Energetic, thorough and optimistic. I have always worked with Public Relations in companies aligned with my desire to positively impact the society through transformative actions and contributing to social, ethical, moral, economic, environmental, academic, technological and scientific development, based on the precepts of sustainability. The third sector is something really important in my life. My first volunteer experience was as a teenager, when I worked in an Charitable Association of underprivileged children in the interior of Brazil, and later I participated in Net Impact - Porto Alegre, which consisted of a group of university students who helped establish the structure of NGOs. Additionally, for two years I worked at Solar Meninos de Luz, a school in the Rio de Janeiro favela. I am currently part of the Eco Eduque Project of environmental education for children between 6 and 12 years old and I am helping the AMA Brazil Foundation with projects to preserve the Amazon. My name is Laís Lucca, and I am 31 years old. In 2013, to escape a depression, I donated everything I had and left home. Without money or perspective, I slept on the floor, felt cold, hungry, and had to ask for food and help. After a while, life re-established itself and the desire to help others became even stronger. This gave birth to the idea of a Sustainable Village Eco where beneficiaries participate in entrepreneurial education programs (and citizenship), and are being stimulated to work with organic agriculture, handicrafts, gastronomy and other activities, and overall to generate a family income that can pay the plots of the land and invest in their own well-being. This initiative not only aims to increase the quality of life but also to move the economy.
