Green Travelling Challenge

The main objective of this challenge is to increase engagement and participation of the youth towards a more eco-friendly travelling. This challenge will mainly target millennials; active social media users, active travelers and outdoor enthusiasts. The idea is to create a trend which will generate a bigger impact and attention towards this issue. For example; I am a active Instagram user say travel blogger with around 10k followers. I create a challenge and ask my followers to do the same and nominate their friends to share a picture/Instagram stories along with the hashtag #greentravellingchallenge. This will help to create a social media trend among the users and youth using social media to share their idea. To make this approach even more effective, collaborations can be done with Travel vloggers or youtubers to create even a bigger impact.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The challenge will help create a social media trend which is now measurable. Due to social media insights and analytics we will be able to see how far the campaign is going and the likely impressions. The impressions are readily available on Instagram/Twitter/Facebook to analyze. Though this challenge can be succeeded through most social media platforms, this is mostly aimed for Instagram users since most of the travelers love sharing their pictures and posts on Instagram. The target as of now will be millennials who are majority of active Instagram users. The green travelling challenge is easy, affordable and readily measurable with high prospects of success.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
This is a cost-effective idea which doesn't necessarily need a lot of financing. This idea to implement requires collaboration with travel bloggers/vloggers, youtubers to gain some exposure online. The only part where it shall require a budget will be to collaborate with these social media influencers and to run an awareness ad campaign. To gain an even bigger and effective exposure through social media, a certain budget requiring around minimum $500-$1k (considering the kind of impact desired) can be obtained through paid social media ad campaign to increase awareness through Facebook/Instagram. The source for budget is currently under progress.
I am 23 year old graduate student of marketing at CU Denver Business School. I am originally from Nepal but moved to the U.S. last year for my master's degree. I completed my second semester this May. I am currently taking a course for digital marketing and analytics which has been really helpful for me to understand the metrics running behind the scenes of digital media, the future. I am also a blogger, a writer and a storyteller. I have previously been awarded "featured storyteller" for my article on "World Pulse", a global media. I have always loved travelling and look forward to do more of it in the future. I work with a can-do attitude and am highly motivated towards success and achieving target/goals in life.
