Explain your idea in details:
The goal number four focus on quality education which ensures inclusive and equitable education which promotes lifelong learning. However, for the girl child, this may be hard at times to achieve in that a lot of girls in schools do miss classes during their menstrual periods. This can be due to the high poverty rate, especially in remote rural places, whereby a girl might fail to have money to secure a menstrual pad and might be in one way or the other expensive to purchase. This has caused one out of twenty students to miss school during their periods. My idea focuses on achieving quality education, especially for the girl child, by an implementation of a 'free pad campaign' across the nation's remote rural areas whereby students can be given free sanitary pads to sustain them and help them focus on their education with an undivided attention even during their menstrual period. The idea's main focus is to ensure that there is an all time school attendance for the girl child. In order to achieve this, part of the plan includes going from school to school, partnering with school heads and distributing the pads to the needy and disadvantaged students. This also means partnering with organizations that share the same interest in making this a reality for the girl child.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The idea of free pads campaign is targeting girls from remote rural areas in Kenya and those who come from poor backgrounds and can't afford to purchase the pads. The main impact is that it will ensure that no girl misses school and every girl gets a quality education, hence a total and full attendance by the students, with total concentration in class activities. This will reduce the rate at which girl child misses school during while on her periods. As part of the plan, I am targeting the sanitary pads distributors and would be glad to write a proposal to them in order that they may reduce the pads prices to a level whereby even the poorest on the society can manage to purchase. This means, I will do my best, as part of the measures in place, to partner with willing organizations that share the same interest and also raise an awareness to the public through the social media platforms, on the the importance of quality education for the girl child and letting them know how the free pad campaign can help achieve this. On the matters concerning the costs on the same, part of the plan includes approaching companies which manufacture pads and purchasing the pads at a lower price, probably with a discount, then distributiing them for free. Companies that offer reusable parts can also be ideal in that it can save the cost at a very high rate. In summary, all this will ensure there is no undivided attention from school for the girl child and a full concentration in her studies hence quality education, which is sustainable development goal number four, will have been achieved.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The main idea focuses on a free pad campaign for the purpose of achieving a quality education for the girl child. For an effective achievement of this, am purposing to partner with organizations that share common interest and who will act as collaborators and financing source on the same. The power of social media like Facebook will be much handful in raising an awareness on the same through posting and asking the public to support the project through contributions and creation of more awareness. Donors who understand the importance of quality education will also be ideal and welcomed. For a start, my main financial source will be from my savings saved during school, and also support from friends. The project might start with distributing pads a few nearby schools and as time goes by, and donors start realising the need for such a campaign, eventually the idea will be implemented nationwide and hopeful worldwide. A company like Always deals with feminine hygiene including pads, it can be approached with the same idea, once they take it positively, they can become part of the collaborators in that I can purchase the pads in bulky at a cheaper price than the normal price then distribute the pads for free. In Kenya, a'Impact African Industries' which began a reusable sanitary pads company for poor African girls can be ideal and getting the reusable pads from them can be less costly since the pads will last for a long time, hence saving the costs.
