Partnerships for the Goals
Explain your idea in details:
The main goal is to involve everyone in the tourism industry, they should feel involved and reap benefits of their participation. Having investors help with funding activities and enhance tourism development. Activities should involve having arts festivals, music festivals and use community cultures which can be listed as the tourism product this is for the entertainment of people interested. Community involved could use their cultures and traditions without changing them, they should be staged authenticity for people interested in acknowledging and gain new experiences, people visiting should be toured around and be taught of historical, cultural and environmental significance found in a host area. Involving people in the decision-making processes enables them to fully participate and have a positive perception towards tourists. Investors and private sectors should support the approaches implemented. Community people along with all stakeholders should combine thoughts and offer the little information of the sacred things though not in full details and offer tourists the chances to be involved in traditional attires contesting, cooking and tasting the host area daily food. Elders in the host area must be given the chance to answer questions from tourists and there be prices given to tourists who listened attentively. Tourists should be involved if they want to be involved in traditional dances.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The idea target all people interested in learning about the history, traditions and cultures of other people though this could result in ruining their sacred history, most people do look down on people's cultures. This could be avoided by leaving out things to highlight about the culture and not let tourists know the secret behind the uniqueness of their food, traditions and the host community. It may not be too beneficial to community people than how it will benefit private sectors and investors. These activities could be devaluing to people of some areas sharing the cultures if they do not benefit. The number of people attending could not be as highly as expected which result in returning the low amounts of money than what it required to make it possible. Tour guides should ensure that tourists do not touch nor pick the environmental, cultural and historical valued items. And no one should tour around unguided. People hired should originally be from the host area. Having number of people could result in littering therefore there should be dustbins and warning people about neatness. Benefits of people should be agreed on and highlighted to avoid conflict among the participants. Encourage the behavior of hosts because the returning of tourists and increased tourists number rely on how they treat them.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Meeting between hosts and community members should be held to discuss the amount of money needed for attires that would be worn for tourists performances, the food that they will showcase and which history to reveal. Government should be involved in assisting with funds where possible. Hosts should negotiate with 'no littering companies' to offer written posts warning about the consequences of polluting the environment and also offer dustbins, paper bags and plastics. Significance items in the area should not be within reach to avoid damages. Hire knowledgeable people in the area for tourist's entertainment such as traditional dance groups, chefs and traditional musicians, storytellers and poets/poetesses. The rules agreed to, must be strictly followed and adhered to. Community members must come together to support the events held in the area. There could be items sold by the community members for benefits. Companies interested in Arts and Culture should be allowed the chance to participate and fund the artists, cultural institutions. Ambulances should be there in case of emergency. Social media platforms should be involved to spread the word of mouth, the sharing of posts and news about the event planned. Educators chosen by the host area must assist by teaching tourists of the importance of respecting the any form of activities in an event to make hosts to be friendly towards them. The venue chosen should accommodate the guests as it is known that large number of guests can cause damage but if the venue is big enough the damages may be limited. Donation posts should be handed out to make the event a success, the donation paper will be the youth's responsibility.
I am Pumeza Makatisi from South Africa originally from Eastern Cape but residing in Kwa-Zulu Natal because of studies. I am 20 years old currently studying at university and doing Bachelor of Arts in Cultural and heritage tourism because i love it, I love nature and exploring. I was raised by my grandmother in the rural villages while my mother (single parent) worked in cities, I studied in villages until tertiary moved me from my hometown. I am mostly motivated by the situations I left home and the poverty i was raised in, and being the first one at home to get accepted in university i believe I can bring change and turn things around for the better. I am a hard working lady, who likes taking chances which resulted in finding about this competition, determined which is the reason why I entered this competition, and I believe in myself. I always give my best in everything I do. I am patient and failing something doesn't send the idea that i am not good, but rather that next time i need to do better than before. I spend most of my time studying. In my high school years at grade 10 I received the certificate of excellence in History and received the other certificate of excellence in History when I was doing grade 11. I hope I will make it to the top ten, that will be the greatest recognition.
