Improving stakeholders capacity in solving conflict through Conciliatory Peace-Making in Buea

The idea seeks to improve stakeholders capacity on conciliatory peacemaking in Buea. The objectives are; to ensure that stakeholders have the right skills not just to criticize violent and extremism action but rather they have put in place well calculated new alternative strategies to challenge violent narratives, market and engage their communities on non-violence tactics, to help stakeholders gain deepened understanding of Civil Resistance Concepts, including use of media to counter radical propaganda and narratives and to help stakeholders gain deepened understanding of the dynamics of Peace Resistance as well as improve the effectiveness of their communication strategies to craft on assigning peace and nonviolent messages to targeted audience. The activities include; carryout sensitization meeting to identify and map out stakeholders. Here stakeholders will be classified as active allies and non-active allies, carryout training on strategy of nonviolent including the backfire tactics, carryout training on media with focus on how they can interpret and publish their information, follow up stakeholders to develop and implement their plan of action, carryout constant monitoring of stakeholders to ensure sustainability and ensure door to door sensitization of community members by stakeholders and the team for constant use of nonviolent tactics in resolving conflicts. This idea is very unique and innovative because it uses community participatory approach. By using this approach, the community members will be solely responsible in the implementation of the project with technical support from the implementing team. Also this approach takes into consideration varieties of stakeholders which include government institutions, civil society leaders, girls, women, youths and traditional authorities. The municipality is facing problem of violence and this has led to the destruction of properties and loss of lives. This idea will help to empower 1000 stakeholders on the use of conciliatory peace- making tactics in solving conflict rather than violence.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
This project will be implemented using a community participatory approach. By using this approach, the community members will be solely responsible in the implementation of the project with technical support from the implementing team. Thus it will ensure sustainable development as follows; It will help in mitigating crime in Buea Municipality It will empower over 1000 stakeholders on conciliatory peacemaking in Buea It will help to bridge the gap between the leading activist and the opponent It will reduce the aspect of fear and tension in Buea It will intensify and bring over 300 girls, women and youths to be crusader of peace in Buea It will foster overall sense of well being and economic growth
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The business model starts by identification and mapping (active allies and non active allies) of stakeholders, sensitization of stakeholders to be involved in peace building process, organizing training workshops using power point presentations, group exercise and discussion so as to build the capacity of identified stakeholders on conciliatory peacemaking. At the end of the training workshop, stakeholders are ask to develop their plan of action and it will be validated by the technical team and Monitoring and Evaluation strategy will be developed to follow up all the stakeholders trained. The main financing source includes; goodwill donations, contribution from members, support from Government institutions and civil societies and grants from International donors. The main collaborators to this idea include; International Governance Institute based in Cameroon, Operation Total Impact and Ministry of Social Affairs.
Njinkeng Relendis is 30 years old born on the 2nd March, 1989 at Befua in Lebialem Division, South West Region of Cameroon. Njinkeng holds a Bachelors degree in Curriculum Study and Teaching Geography from the University of Buea. She has over four years experience working in the field of teaching, peace advocacy and Gender Based Violence. She is a Peace activist leader with focus on empowerment of stakeholders especially girls, women and youths on conciliatory peacemaking processes and democratic governance. After her Bachelors Degree, she decided to get involved with the problems of violence extremism and Gender Based Violence facing her country by developing initiatives that will empower young people with capacity that they can use to overcome violence extremism by using conciliatory peacemaking approach. She is a dynamic female leader with the desire to contribute to the attainment of the overall vision of the Sustainable Development Goal which advocates for A world where no one is left behind. Through her work, she has been able to empower 200 girls, women and youths who are involved in peace building process. She has also been able to empower over two hundred (200) inmates in Buea Central Prison through education which has enable them to obtain Cameroon General Certificate Examination both Ordinary and Advance Levels. The main qualities that lead to her success thus far are that she is not afraid to assign task, manage her time judiciously, pay attention to details and communicate well with all the team members involved and above all get out of the office to make sure that things get done. She has been recognized through her work by International Governance Institute which gave her the chance to take part in their fellowship on peace building and democratic governance.
