ACADEMICIANS AND THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES INTERFACE FOR AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT
Explain your idea in details:
It is assumed that over the years of their existence, higher learning institutions in Tanzania must have conducted research and accumulated knowledge that would have been crucial/useful in improving production in various sectors of the economy. For various reasons this knowledge generated through research has not trickled down to the masses of the Tanzanian population due to the following reasons:- There is no physical/direct contact/link between higher learning institutions and the general public. Languages used in formal education system such as English, which is a foreign language to the majority of Tanzanian communities; and in addition they use academic/technical discourse that is not easily discernible to the local communities. As a result, most of the research findings in higher learning institutions in Tanzania are lying idle in shelves of those institutions that conduct research. The main objective of the concept is to convert scientific studies conducted by academic staff of SOKOINE UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE into Swahili language and distribute them to non-professionals in the villages to improve agricultural productivity. Stake holders will be invited ACADEMICIAN, GRADUATE, and MEMBERS FROM SOKOINE UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE also REPRESENTATIVE FROM LOCAL COMMUNITY to form a team that will complete the following activities:- To identify and collect relevant researches based in agriculture To review, translate and print them in Swahili Language. To organize meetings with local communities for project introduction and discrimination preparation.
