Explain your idea in details:
Uganda is an East African country with more than 1000 citizens using her buses on a daily basis both locally and regionally. Congestion on the roads and bus booking stations are the keys to the high death rates registered not forgetting the 25 citizens who died on the Kampala-Gulu highway in 2018. UGBOOKING EXPRESS comes to ensure accessibility to online bus booking services and also monitoring the movement of buses locally and regionally through online bus tracking service which is to be availed to bus companies registered and operating in our software. One of the key factors to be enforced is the encouragement of bus companies to incorporate seat belts, set appropriate and convenient travel times for our customers, prevent overloading of luggage by setting maximum number of passengers as per our online system, set seats appropriate for expectant mothers and offer first Aid services. This system will lead to slow and gradual elimination of middle men in the booking sector but instead create jobs for online monitoring and marketing for bus companies.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
In the first 10 years following implementation, it will impact 1000 users and in the later years more than 100,000 users locally and regionally. The system will as well be implemented in the rest of Africa and impacting 10 million users in Africa in 10 year time and more than 100 million users globally in 30 year time. There will be 1000 jobs created in Uganda and 1,000,000 jobs created globally following the peak of this project. The jobs to be created will be in software engineering, web management, digital marketing and offline booking assistants among others. The age group for direct beneficiaries will be 15+ and the individuals who are below this age group will be assisted where applicable to benefit from the system. The system will encourage taxi owners to register with government to access our services to increase their chances of being incorporated to reduce crime rates during travelling through robbery as Ugandans lose a lot on the way to thieves while traveling.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Implementation will be done by a team of five people experienced in both digital marketing marketing and software development. There will be a series of meetings done to ensure development of the best of the best software out of this idea. Following the development of this system, joint ventures will be created first with a few bus companies for testing and scaling the idea. Following its success, it will be extended to other bus companies and negotiation of terms of service with both bus companies and passengers will be made on a monthly basis. Online and offline advertisement will be made where applicable to improve user knowledge about the system. Cheap offline marketing will be encouraged and taught to passengers before the bus takes off and online marketing will be via Google Ads and Facebook Ads. Free travel campaigns will be launched for customers who will book the bus first to encourage people to use the system on a regular basis. The system will be first implemented in Kampala in the first two years and we will expand to the other parts of the country following the measured progress and the number of monthly and yearly users.
I am Simon Apil, a fourth year student at Makerere university offering petroleum geoscience and production. I am 24 years old born on 6/4/1995 in Lira district Northern Uganda. I am a langi by tribe raised from an extended family, lost my parents at a young age of 5 and now leaving with my guardians Esther and George Akara. I first came to know of this golden opportunity through an email from a website and immediately decided to take action, that is my strength. I like taking immediate action when the right job and opportunity is placed on my table. I have made tremendous success in the field of education scoring first grade in primary, high school and 18/20 points in my Advanced certificate of education. I am motivated by how Africa can remain underdeveloped yet opportunities to solve greater problems lie just before us. I joined the field of innovation with my first project OilPoolUg which has been helping students in Uganda access quicker and cheaper access to oil and gas information. I then thought of something commercial yet does not only solve problems in our classroom but in the entire country ,Africa and the world at large. UGBOOKING EXPRESS is this solution which is going to change the entire transport system locally and globally. I believe UGBOOKING EXPRESS is the new industry for the fourth industrial revolution being experienced in this age.
