Pro poor tourism in Rural Gambia
Explain your idea in details:
Is to enable rural Gambians also enjoy from the country's largest earning economy through tourist visits, community forestry, sponsoring needy students and improving their health facilities through donations. Family visits which is also part of my itenery helps provide food and other commodities I provide from the payments made by tourist to book the tours. We help create and maintain school gardens and school feeding programs and tree planting exercises at schools. I take turns to visit different villages on different dates for many to benefit not only one.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Some families I have been visiting for the past years some have establish their own business in the compounds, school children being able to complete basic education, enable aforestation in some village forest and schools, It has enable one villager to now put corrigated iron sheets on his roof instead of palm leaves. Myself from a poor family was able to gain admission into university to study tourism and hospitality management through this project.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
I have been doing this for 5 years now and continue to do and will like to establish full fledged registered tour operating company once I completed my university education in 2020. Employ rural youth and support many villages and school children through this project.
I am 30 years old, born in the second largest town called Brikama in west coast region completed basic education went to college and studied English language and social and environmental studies. I thought for 3 years in a local village about 220 kilometers from the capital and living and seeing how rural villagers struggle for daily bread and social amenities, school materials and fees , poor helath conditions and facilities thus this motivated me to consider rural villages as my tour destinations for tourist to see the real Gambia and support families through donations and bookings they make with my project.
