Explain your idea in details:
MiLink will be a Job Search App which offers distinct features than those that are offered by several competitors according to my research thus far. The main objective of MiLink is to bring job seekers to the employment environment in the career fields that they qualify for and it aims to provide companies a chance to select from a pool of highly qualified candidates. An account can be created by both companies and candidates. Two types of accounts can be created, that is a personal/individual account and a company account. In a company account a company posts certain minimum job requirements of a particular job opportunity and in an instant the candidates who meet the minimum job requirements are notified in their individual/personal account. The candidate who is interested can then apply for the job. It is more about the job availing its self to the candidate rather than the traditional way of the candidate scrolling through several job offers which are not aligned with the career field the candidate is qualified for. MiLink will have features that help candidates prepare for interviews by giving them interview tips that will secure the job offer. CV`s and cover letters can also be created on MiLink, MiLink aims to be a one stop source for finding a job by giving the candidates all the necessities needed for potential employment. MiLink will also update the candidate on recent company information. Much like a few Job Search Apps, MiLink will also make use of a messaging feature to interact with hiring manager(s) about the selection process and information on the interview as mails can sometimes be spam or get flooded which may be undesired for both the candidate and the hiring company.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
In the short-term the target market is people who are unemployed specifically the youth living in the rural areas of South Africa. The unemployment rate for 2018 was 27.1% and the employment rate was 43.34% with the Western Cape creating 75% of all new jobs in South Africa, now imagine an individual who is unemployed living in Mpumalanga where less job opportunities are created, he/she has to go all the way to Western Cape for a job only to find that all job opportunities have been taken, a waste of time and money that the individual does not have. With less job opportunities created in other provinces in South Africa it is difficult to know of such opportunities and they are quickly taken by people who have seen the job offer first. MiLink will reduce the individual`s spending on unnecessary expenses in order to get a job. It will thus decrease the unemployment rate in South Africa bit by bit because people will be exposed to the recent job opportunities and when they spend money, they will spend it on potential or promising job opportunities rather than spending it on uncertain possibilities of getting a job. The primary target of MiLink is to contribute to reducing the unemployment rate in South Africa and achieving this will be a measure to evaluating the success of MiLink. Interview tips offered by MiLink will be essential for instilling the intellect of job seekers for future job opportunities. With the transition into the 4th Industrial Revolution jobs will be scarce, the long term vision of MiLink will be to bring candidates several job opportunities by exposing them to recent job offers all around the world.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The idea is still a concept that has potential and once it is implemented it can bring change to a lot of people. The idea is still one-man vision to bring change through MiLink with the hope to bring in other parties in the process. Once the idea is initiated and the App is developed I aim to make revenue in two primary ways: ads and collecting and selling data. These methods are commonly used by free Apps for generating revenue. The use of ads to monetize Apps and make money involves MiLink displaying commercials and getting paid by 3rd party networks. We can generate revenue every time an ad is displayed (per impression), per click on the ad, and when the user downloads the advertised App. Apps collect a lot of users`data (the user`s behaviour and personal preferences), this data will be collected by MiLink when the user uses MiLink and the data will be sold to researchers. Of course, the App must be well known to penetrate the market and create revenue and I have found a lot of ideas to market the App. We will create a promo video that will be uploaded on YouTube and make use of YouTube ads that will cost R90-R110 per 1000 impressions. We will also apply for awards to get App exposure and reviews. With Pinterest`s new feature called App Pin I aim to take advantage of it by posting MiLink on their website for App exposure. App Store Optimization will be used in not one but several App stores to increase the chances of getting downloads. Social media platforms will be utilised and MiLink will be featured on people`s emails of course by their permission to market MiLink.
I am an 18 year old turning 19 this year, a first year at the University of Johannesburg studying Bachelor of Accounting and brought up in a rural area called Siyabuswa in Mpumalanga, South Africa. At a very young age I was sure that I am going to pursue a career in football but after weighing my options and seeing that I have no opportunity to pursue that career I had to have a second option. My parents spent almost half of their years in between jobs, my mother was a housemaid at some point working in a very distant workplace and lost her job because it was too far. She then started her own small business of selling homemade "ice pops" in order to take care of us whilst my father was away seeking a job. It was then that I was eager to become an entrepreneur but selling a distinct product not for my survival but a product that will bring change in people`s lives. I have no qualities of building an App but I am very persistent and hungry for knowledge. After completing my Grade 12 I was awarded 4 certificates namely for being the best learner in Business Studies in the Circuit and District, best learner in Accounting in the Circuit and being part of the Top 5 performing learners in the Circuit. I always try to find new ways of improving and developing myself, I am not a bookworm but I am very passionate about being an entrepreneur in order to help impoverished communities by giving them access to opportunities. What drove me to be an entrepreneur was the situation I saw in my community and through that the desire to bring change in people`s lives crept in.
