Recycling Organic waste for sustainable animal production and agriculture
Project Details
Explain your idea in details:
The main objective is to replace the expensive fish meal in animal diet with inexpensive maggot meal. To attain the objective, As' farms and processing will grow maggots using organic wastes and further process the pupae into animal feed. We will place our collection vessels with inscriptions at different locations in Buea into which inhabitants can dump organic wastes. These waste collection vessels will be transported by tricycles to the site on daily basis to avoid unpleasant smell in town. At the site, sorting will precede filling the growing chambers for the process to begin. While the pupae will be processed to animal feed, the second byproduct of the process which is compost will be at the disposal of farmers for organic agriculture and As' farms and processing will educate and encourage farmers to use compost to practice hydroponic agriculture in stony areas. Hydroponic agriculture is not practiced in Cameroon yet.

The impact of the project will be felt in the animal production industry and agricultural sector. In essence, the project targets individuals engaged in the aforementioned sectors either involved in animal production, animal feed production or crop production. Through this project individuals involved animal feed production will acquire inexpensive maggots in replacement of fish meal and the resulting effect will be a drop in the cost of animal feed for animal farmers. This project will bring a lot of saving in terms of money to the animal production industry. We will work with farmers to introduce hydroponic agriculture as means to use the compost produced. To evaluate success, As' farms and processing will keep track of the number of farmers practicing hydroponic agriculture in different localities as well as the growth performance of the plants. In the animal production industry, we will survey the market and animal feed processing centers to evaluate usage of maggot meal in animal feed.

I am 27 years. I have a science background from secondary school through University. I obtained my BSc. in Zoology in 2013 graduating as the best student of my department. In 2015, I obtained a diploma in shipping and logistics management which is driven by my interest in management and entrepreneurship. I have handled a number of supply chain positions in different companies and presently work as one of the sales representatives at Metropolitan Plastics S.A in Ombe, Cameroon. Alongside my employment, I am a forex trader. Many Cameroonian youths face the problem of unemployment. I want to add hands with the Government of Cameroon to fight unemployment and give youths hope for the future. I have been in the situation and understands what it means and how it feels. I can only do this through job creation and i hope through this competition, I would be able to establish an enterprise that will employ my fellow Cameroonian youths. I am creative and hard working which gives me the impetus to venture into entrepreneurship.

When I was in third grade, we had a mandatory environmental Science class. The only thing i remember from that class, was when our teacher told us, 8 years olds, that the water table was falling by almost 2 feet ever year and Lake Victoria as drying up was the water levels were reducing significantly. For me, this fact suddenly converted this abstract idea of sustainable development into a very real problem that has affected many communities and people.

Nice idea in making alternative fish meal. I believe your reason of going into this area is because of the cost of fish meal presently which could be high, or due to the low protein quantity in fish me. Some time ago, i remember i was having a conversation with colleague of mine who studied industrial chemistry even us to masters level, and he'll be leaving for Germany to do his PHD January 2020. He told of one plan he had to culture worms and from there, he will develop fish meal and bird meal with high protein quantity and perhaps cheap for farmers to purchase. I really think that the both of you are in tune with this, hence i want to wish you all the best as you go on in this competition.

I think one of the things we did that was important was that we worked really hard to identify the right problem before identifying the solution. If you find a problem that people talk about emotionally in their lives, you can take that leap to developing the solution according to Liam Don.
Hence as an entrepreneur let identify problem and find solution to them, and remember we can only do this by turning our idea into reality and by continuing strengthening our project.

Great and enthusiastic idea. The world already suffers an inevitable burden of non recyclable waste which is already overwhelming. Great idea I think to recycle recyclable waste not only but by actually doing it I the proper way to avoid its potential aftermath of either pollution or transmission of microorganisms of medical importance and hence causing.g diseases of public health importance.
