Bottle house project: ECO-Restaurant
Explain your idea in details:
Eco-Restaurant is an entrepreneurship innovative idea. With this idea we are trying to build a restaurant using none-biodegradable plastic bottles. There is a rampant production of plastics in Malawi with almost 75000 tonnes being in circulation at the moment and 80% of which are single use. This enterprise aims at re-using these plastics to reduce the burden they contribute to the Eco-system. It is innovative in the sense that it has never been done before in Malawi. The Eco-Restaurant will be a moderately priced 100 seat restaurant offering family style food and service. The menu will comprise of locally prepared foods e.g Nsima (from maize flour as well as cassava flour), rice, which will be served with local chicken, groundnuts mixed with vegetables, beans mixed okra, okra, Usipa (Engraulicypris sardella), Zinziri(quail), Peacocks, Turkey, pumpkin leaves, cassava leaves, African cakes, Thobwa etc. Our Mission is to achieve a zero plastics environment starting by removing the plastics which are on the ground and promotion of women and culture. To achieve this we have created a bottle house project with one of the branches being a restaurant (other buildings will include book stores, bottle-stores etc.). The primary objectives of the business plan for Restaurant are; to reduce the burden of none-biodegradable plastic bottles in Mzuzu. to empower women via job creation, to open new places every 2yrs, to be the premier local food restaurant in Mzuzu, to provide quality meals at reasonable prices with exemplary service, to empower women and to enhance culture
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The direct impact is through creating a cleaner environment. With the rampant poor disposition of plastic bottles there has been an increase in creation of poor sanitary conditions. A lot of these plastics end up in the rivers, considering that we use river water directly or indirectly for domestic use, reducing the number and the rate of dumping these bottles in the rivers will mean we will be ensuring safe water. women promotion,Most women in rural areas stay in their homes selecting and storing seeds, cultivating gardens and preparing daily meals. These chores are regarded worthless as they are considered women's daily routine. However, there is so much more to these so called household chores like preparing meals. These women can be empowered from preparing daily local food for their families to preparing daily local food for commercial purposes. There will be no need for additional training because we are going to rely on the skills they gain while growing up empowering them in their natural comfort zone. Cultural enhancement and healthy food; with modernization and work demand the population has started living a fast life, eating fast foods and forgetting local foods. This has brought about health scares (BP, strokes etc). This place will be a contrast to other in the sense that we will only offer locally prepared foods which have proven to be healthier, this will mean we are promoting culture, also dipping our legs into tourists who wants to learn about our foods. To measure the success of this venture we will look firstly into profitability and the ability to open new places every 2 years. Secondly we will look at the number of people who are able to emulate our idea into building their own using plastic bottle houses
Plans for implementation and sustainability
this is a private initiative, which means its implementation sorely depends on us. Hence the only hindrance to our starting this is finances. Once we secure the funds through any means we will be able to start. Currently we are sure to raise two million Kwacha (two thousand seven hundred dollars) through the tomato business we are currently indulged in. We are hoping to partner up with Mzuzu city council, the main purpose of this partnership is because the council is responsible for cleaning the city. If we can strike a partnership with the aim of them supplying us the plastic bottles they clean from the city. We will start with a bit of brick-and-mortar approach, before we start on line ordering and delivery. Our menus will be customizable to suite the different preferences of our customers. the mission is to provide a unique and relaxing dining experience similar to dining at home. Firstly by serving quality local foods at reasonable prices, and secondly by being mindful of the well-being of our customers and staff treating each and every one with dignity and respect just like we would at our own home. this will be a self sustaining project, the profits raised will help expand this project to other locations and cities, We will also diversify to include bookstores, and any kind of building.
