Liber: Platform that releases knowledge through the sale and geolocalized purchase of used books.
Explain your idea in details:
Liber is a platform that connects people with used book collections who want to sell and those willing to buy, by proximity and interest. The idea is to broker buying or selling through geo-localized and interest-based search by listing offers closest to used books. The goal is to contribute to the local economy by buying and selling books and promoting sustainable and conscious consumption. Liber recently won a UN award in the Entrepreneurship, Production and Innovation for Sustainable Development category. Liber can also contribute to the development of local communities and promote sustainable and conscious consumption through the circulation of books. Liber recently won a UN award in the Entrepreneurship, Production and Innovation for Sustainable Development category for contributing to SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Current consumption relationships are unbalanced and require more natural resources than the Earth can offer. The inconsequential consumption points to the emergence of businesses that transform habits and promote the reuse of goods. One of the possible responses to unsustainable consumption habits is the shared economy, which promotes the creation of profitable business models that are concerned with environmental sustainability and social impact. Sharing products and services provides access to a good or service without the need to purchase your property. Collaborative consumption can favor the circulation of wealth, maintaining sustainability in transactions. Examples of initiatives that enable the shared economy are Uber and Airbnb. The LIBER platform's sustainability is in the sharing of products and their collaborative consumption, since the books that the individual possesses will not be discarded and can be of use to another person through sustainable shared economy, avoiding waste and collaborating with the environment. The initial strategy would be outreach in universities and schools, combined with social networking strategies and outreach at events such as the Book Fair. We aim to reach 300 users in the first 3 months of use. In the first year of operation, we target 1500 users, with a transaction average of 50 books per day.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Liber's differentials are: no high commission rates for selling used books; O2O (online to offline) business model, with direct negotiation, no logistics costs; Use of Artificial Intelligence (Interest Classification and Recommendation System). In the future, the use of Blockchain technology to ensure the security of transactions on the platform. There are platforms that allow the sale of used books, such as the virtual bookshelf and the donation of books in specific places, such as public libraries. However, for the first alternative, the sale could reverse the amount invested in the purchase of the book, but the existing websites charge high commission per item sold or subscription to create a web store. As for the second option, it was not always possible to find available places to donate the books. With Liber, it will be possible to create a geolocalized book marketplace. Close people will be able to buy the book through the platform and the deal will only be finalized with the confirmation record of both parties. Liber will charge a 1% fee on each sale and purchase transaction. It will be possible to donate books to public or interested libraries through Liber. The sources of revenue will be: - 1% commission on the value of the sale; - Plans to list book ads by proximity; - Plans for companies to advertise products related to readers, but that do not escape the theme of reading; - Plans for businesses to advertise reader-related locations, such as cafes. The construction of an MVP is already underway and the deadline for launching the beta of the application will be made until December 2019.
