The Cleaning Whale
Explain your idea in details:
MariecoWinter will be a robot in the shape of an orca that could swim in the ocean to detect marine litter. The robot will suck the litter and when filled to capacity, the robot will go to a recharging point where it will be emptied and then released again to restart the process. Its shape was conceived in order to collect large amount of litter and not to disturb other animals. Equipped with sensors, a sonar, and infra-red technology the orca-robot will be able to distinguish between living beings and objects. After doing that, it will open its mouth to suck only the objects detected. Later, the water will be returned by the means of a microscopic filter. The robot will stay at the recharging spot until it is completely charged by an electromagnetic induction cable while the litter is being removed and separated by an employee. The main objective is to reduce marine litter.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The expectation of this project is to reduce the quantity of marine litter in the environment. Every year at least 8 million tons of marine littler is thrown into the oceans and professionals are expecting that in 2050 the quantity of marine litter will exceed the quantity of fish in the oceans, so this robot will help to reduce that amount of litter. This project combined with other methods with the same objective will eventually be able to keep the oceans clean and save a large number of sea animals. In order to assess the effectiveness of the project, it will be necessary to compare the amount of litter thrown in the ocean with the amount that still is in the ocean. Then, this information should be compared with the previous year. If there is a reduction, it means the project is being successful.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
This robot is supposed to be made by technology governmental companies of all the nations that produce robots. The robots will be financed by multinational companies that will support the project by doing and selling products of MariecoWinter such as T-shirts, story books, cellphone cases and others made from sustainable materials and 80% of the profit provided by this merchandise will be given to the production and the maintenance of the robots. Besides, government from all nations should give tax exemptions to those companies that are in their territory selling the MariecoWinter products in order to incentivize them. This should be a governmental project because the oceans are responsibility of all the nations and is everyone's duty to protect them.
