A digital way to a healthy world
Explain your idea in details:
The idea is to exploit the genius of internet and world wide network to prevent widespread epidemics. The targeted community will be the population with poor or no healthcare facilities. Every member will have a mobile application with bio data, health record etc fed into it. Worldwide specialist doctors (either volunteered or paid) will also have the same application with all the details. Many small test centers will be established in various places. Various drug companies, health and research centers will also have the similar application.Diseased patient will upload his/her symptoms and it will automatically be received by the nearest doctor. The doctor will tag the disease according to it's severity. Any further reports needed by the doctor to diagnose (x-ray, blood test etc.) will be uploaded by the nearest test centers pre-installed for this purpose only. If the condition is severe, the patient will be consulted by a specialist either online or by visit. Prescribed medicine will be delivered by drug company which has been also connected through the application. Getting diagnosed by specialists all over the world would lead to an early detection of an otherwise deadly disease. Tagging the patient according to the severity of disease would help research organisations to keep a track on the patterns and spreading of a particular disease in an area and they can take the necessary steps before it's too late.Locals would also get an idea about the health condition in their locality and they can take the necessary steps too. Online seminars, podcasts, daily news etc can also help create awareness. Using internet would also prevent deaths due to delayed diagnosis.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Since the targeted population will be having internet connection, it will be easy to track the number of active members ,transactions, conversations and diagnoses. It can also help small tribes to start business with outer world by selling herbs and homemade medicines for diseases. This app will serve as a platform for health diagnosis, shopping(of medicines etc), business, research and sharing of knowledge, all connected to each other. It can create new jobs and opportunities.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
The model is not very complex. Since it is all online, we would just need volunteers and connections with doctors, drug companies, research centers and public. Doctors can volunteer or be paid by the organisation if the project gets success. Building of small test centers will require labors which can be found in abundance in those locations. Money can either be raised through donations or government collaboration or selling the idea to a company which is capable to implement it. If the project gets successful, we can connect WHO and other organisations. To start on a small scale, we would need a team of programmers and volunteers. We can start the project as a small scale initiative in a small area, raising money through donations of the local people or asking them to volunteer for constructions and creating awareness. If it seems tough to have it as a sole proprietorship, we can introduce this model to some well established organisation.
I am Vedant, an Indian studying in Japan. I am currently 17 and will be studying mechanical engineering from next year. I have been to many villages and places where I had seen very poor or no healthcare facilities. For a better quality of life, I believe that health is one of the most important factor and asset. And this era witnessing the fastest growth of human civilization, access to proper healthcare has become more important than Mars landing. Using internet as an advantage, I wish to connect those people to a better quality of life.
