Explain your idea in details:
Trisolace SnailPockets is an enterprise which provides people an investment they can see and grow by themselves in the form of snails in a recycled box made from car tyre and old metal. The starter kit contains 50 snails, soil, calcium supplement and training as to how to raise snails. Snails are very nutritious and expensive in this part of the world, with one snail costing as much as a dollar (1$) making them one of the most profitable farm animals per square meter and not time demanding. Snails are hermaphrodites so each individual member lays eggs and one snail can lay a minimum of about 200 eggs with 98% survival rate in hatching and growing up. Snails do not make noise and does not smell so you can put them anywhere in the house, snails recycle the house hold organic waste so you do not spend money on feed. After production, Trisolace buys the snails from you so you do not have to search for buyers. All People do, is to feed the snails everyday: spending as little as 3mins a day on them and making a lot of money from it as we will buy the eggs and if hatched by People the snails as well, thereby given them ready market.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Trisolace Group as a conglomerate of businesses is very big on positive impact, sustainable development, empowerment of women, children, youth, physically challenged and the vulnerable in the society and country at large. My products and services help solve SDG goals : GOAL 1: No Poverty. GOAL 2: Zero Hunger. provide financial security, job availability and empower women, youth and the less priviledged in the community We there always strive to provide positive impact like investment education, self-improvement and empowerment. We started the Trisolace SnailPocket to give Ghanaian's a credible investment avenue they can hold, feel and touch in the form of snail raising and to use this same SnailPocket idea to empower women, youth and the physically challenged on how to earn a livelihood for themselves. We also use snails to introduce a healthy living approach where snail can be a healthy substitute to other fatty meat source. we also want to use it as Therapy to mitigate the effects of loneliness, menopause and old age in the aged in society. Where by the aged raising the snails will help them be exercised and kept busy so it becomes Therapeutic to them.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Our collaborators are the Ghana governments programs like planting for food and jobs , Council for Scientific and industrial research,CSIR. Our financial sources are self-funding which we do with our snails in box selling .We are building a website where all people with knowledge on snails, be it professors, farmers and hobbyist alike can go and key there finds so it becomes a centralized point for all information on snail. So in the next one year we hope to know about diseases, improved house units or pens, etc. We are also striving hard and have started researches aimed at one setting up a factory which we can use to can the snail meat (escargot) so it can help post-harvest wastage as those who pick from the forest sometimes do not have enough market around them and some times are forced to throw away, sell at very low price or forced to eat them. Even though we also buy from the forest pickers, there is very little we can store or save at a time, due to the capacity of our facilities. I am also looking at getting additional revenue through the extraction and sale of the snail slime which is currently the next big thing in skin care product. There has been advances where currently there are machines that can extract the snail slime, without killing them. Thereby maximizing profit and adding extra revenue to our industry. So, in the next one year we will have a facility for canning snails, and for extracting the slime and a centralized website for information on snail and all things snail.
I am Felix Appiah Nyarko, I am 28 years old and a civil Engineering graduate from the Kumasi Technical university (formerly Kumasi Polytechnic). I am also the founder of Trisolace Group of companies where we have Trisolace TechSolutions (www.trisolace.com) where we deal in website development, graphics development and branding. And Trisolace farms where we are into snails, mushrooms and very soon vegetables. I am always looking for ways to enhance myself by increasing my knowledge base, so after school I taught myself how to code website or develop websites and graphic designing with which I started a company: where currently I employ 16 graduates. I am a born leader, fluent in English and very resourceful, determined and passionate about creating jobs for the youth and vulnerable in society. My weakness might be that I am a perfectionist so sometimes I keep longer at a project just to make sure it achieves the highest of standard.
