Explain your idea in details:
Fashion industry is becoming the world's 2nd largest environment polluter. How? 1.Cheap fabrics are made of plastic. These plastics get added to wasted water as plastic microfibers when the fabric is made and even we wash it. Then, it either gets added directly to soil or goes to the rivers and the ocean via the drainage system. Then the soil become infertile affecting agriculture, the food cultivation and the forests too. On the other hand, our Oceans get completely destroyed with its marine lives. Also, we as humans get to fill our stomachs with plastic via fish and salt we eat. 2.Every year, more than 120 million trees are cut down to make our clothing, but not planted back to balance the environment. Why? 1.People don't know what they wear destroys the planet. 2.People don't know about eco fashion options/ brands. There are 1000s of eco brands now, but buyers don't even know that such are existing. Because these tiny brands don't have enough investments to promote massively to the mass market. Our Objectives are to solve these issues. How? Eldorns, Amazon for Eco Fashion. An e-commerce website to sell eco friendly fashion items connecting both buyers and sellers while creating awareness in the world (mainly Asia) about environment pollution and support communities who plant trees, clean ocean and save marine lives and the earth. Therefore, Eldorns is the marketplace for all small eco fashion brands to reach the mass market easily for a low cost. Eldorns creates awareness to the world that cheap (fast) fashion destroys the planet, so that people can avoid buying those. These buyers can buy eco products from many brands via Eldorns. From the income Eldorns earn, it supports communities to plant trees, clean ocean and save marine lives and the earth.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
In Eldorns, every aspect of its business connects with SDGs. 1. Supports small businesses. Eldorns sources its eco fashion products mainly from small scale businesses, individuals, single mothers and females. There are many females in many countries who produce creative and eco friendly fashion items. They need our support to grow. Large fashion brands in the world use labour to produce their clothing for very lower cost from developing countries. Many females work for very low wages in garment factories. These females can start their own businesses in producing clothing if they have a way to sell such products. So, we help such small brands to spread their names. SDGs, "No Poverty" & "Gender Equality". 2. Creating awareness on the damage to Earth with Plastic & Fast Fashion. Many consumers still buy fast fashion and plastic fashion, because they are not aware of the damage it does to the Earth and all the lives on Earth. Eldorns will start creating this awareness to the general public as CSR projects. SDGs, "Responsible Production & Consumption", "Climate Action", "Life Below Water", "Life On Land". 3. Supporting communities to protect the Earth. A percentage of revenue of Eldorns will be used to plant trees, clean the ocean, help marine lives. (eg: A tree will be planted for every 5 earned by Eldorns). For this Eldorns will partner with communities who does such work. SDGs, "Climate Action", "Life Below Water", "Life On Land". 4. Using Blockchain technology to verify fair trade. In the long run, Eldorns is planning to implement blockchain technology to verify "who made your clothes", whether they are paid fairly, sources of materials etc. So, the customers know whether they are buying from an ethical and eco friendly brand. SDGs, "Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure" and "Responsible Production & Consumption".
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Eldorns Business Model is similar to Amazon, but 100% focusing on eco friendly products. Eldorns is a marketplace for customers to buy eco fashion items online (e-commerce). Brands/ Individuals who produce eco fashion items can register with Eldorns and send us pictures of its products with other information and final prices. Eldorns checks few samples and approve them as verified eco sellers. Eldorns displays all the products on the website with details and pricing. Once Eldorns receives an order from a customer, we request the seller to send it to Eldorns and Eldorns delivers the item to the customer who ordered. Eldorns charges a commission plus the delivery charge from the seller for every product sold via Eldorns site. The commission is the revenue of Eldorns. Eldorns will plant a tree for every 5 earned by its sales or donate to clean the ocean or save marine lives. In the long run, Eldorns can definitely support many other projects to serve Climate Action goal. At present, the sources of finance are self investments. We are looking for good investors who like to save the planet with us. We are now in the process of registering ethical and eco fashion sellers to Eldorns. We are planning to collaborate with Social media influencers to promote our brand to the general public, organize events and discussions with few corporate brands to create awareness on the damage occurs due to fast fashion, collaborate with communities including United Nations Youth Communities, Lions Clubs International, Rotaract Clubs. We have already partnered up with Thuru.lk to plant trees and Leo Club of Colombo (Host) & Lions Club of Colombo (Host) in Sri Lanka to plant trees and clean beaches in Sri Lanka.
I am Harshi (31 yrs) from the Pearl of Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka surrounded by its breathtaking natural beauty. I had a dream to become a successful Entrepreneur when I was 17 years old. Also, I had the passion to protect the environment when I was a little child and to serve the community. Although, I grew up in the tech industry throughout my career life, I was always thinking of ways to save the planet. Then I thought of starting my own business to save the Earth to follow both my dream and passion. That's why I came up with Eldorns.
