Home for the mentally challenged and the elderly
Explain your idea in details:
The purpose of this project is to lessen the burden of the primary supports of the families that are experiencing hardship of taking care of aging population or people with mental issues (PWMI). The main obstacles present are establishing a trustworthy, affordable, and professional facility while being close enough to allow family members to regularly visit. Instead of keeping the elderly or PWMI in locked facilities, we can set up communities for them in refreshing rural areas surrounding cities. With professionals and volunteers guiding PWMI to do basic farming, the PWMI can provide food for the whole community through easier muscle work or machine operation, and do not have to compete in intelligence challenging areas in the city. With this food supply, families only need to pay infrastructure-maintaining fees. On weekends, the family members of both communities, working in nearby cities, can easily visit and spend time with family along with volunteering (e.g. helping and supervising farming), with support from government policy, families can even take turns volunteer in the weekdays. More care for the elderly, and more meaningful life for PWMI this way. This project combined care for the less-abled and care for the elderly in to the same facility. By putting those who have the strength but cant find appropriate jobs in the city and cant support themselves never mind their families
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The target of this project is to reduce the increasingly urgent aging problem in China in particular, while easing the burden of families with PWMI. Using PWMIs power to help provide for the community, the need of labor or any financial aid is reduced. Through this organic mechanism, we are able to build a sustainable environment that is not as financially consuming as regular nursing homes(for the aging) or asylums(for the PWMI), still taking off heaviness that these circumstances, that are most likely become prevalent in the near future, bring to families, especially their providers. The rural areas closeness to cities also provide opportunities for families to bond as well as volunteer, improving the present situation where offspring leave their parents at nursing homes and never visit, also reducing paid labor, all of this lower the cost of running the facility. To evaluate whether the project is successful or not, one simply needs to compare a facility like this charge less than the closest nursing home. If the fee is lower, then the families are most likely visiting and volunteering, the sustainable environment should be kicking in, because this is what keeps the manitance fees low. But as long as the facility is providing care for those who need it, it is doing a meaningful job.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
There are two ways for this kind of organization to run profit or non-profit. No matter which of the two, social welfare facilities like this can still apply for government funds, partner with companies who can put this in as employee welfare. The facility itself should be self-efficient, with PWMI growing and cooking food, volunteers (family members, social warm-hearts) checking in regularly helping with administrative work or supervising work (taking medication or working in the field), only doctors will be a major cost but government support and basic admissions fee will be more than able to cover the expense. Business models can follow previous social welfare programs examples, this particular model is different as it combined psychiatric facilities with nursing homes with the poor, note that only the non-violent and labor-abled mentally challenged patients are discussed here, and through this we can put these people who used to spend their families money and only garden so they wont sit around all day in to good use, and let them contribute as normal people would, which actually I believe will be good for their mental well-being. Through this change, less doctors are needed and a sustainable environment can be built bringing down the cost of maintenance, therefore, also bringing down admissions fees, taking who used to be liabilities for families and giving them a purpose.
I am 17 years old from China with a brother with autism. I have lived with him for most of my life because affordable and trust worthy facilities are lacking. I lived in America for a year and a half when I was younger and really saw a difference in social welfare, especially in volunteering. But that does not make me want to frown upon my country, instead, given my familys own situation, I want to be part of the solution. I see the challenges my family face on a daily basis, my mother and father, always troubled because my brother is either throwing a fit, or hes behaving compulsively; every now and then, he has a seizure, and it is happening more and more frequent. We all know that he needs a proper facility, but my parents hear about terrible things they some times do to keep control of the patients, therefore, rather him stay home so that he is safe, not to mention its not a small price to keep him in a facility. Medication have become increasingly expensive and my parents are not getting younger, they cannot survive taking care of a mentally-troubled strong man. I want to take action, I am planning on studying abroad to learn business, and earn money to make a difference, and someday realize this project. I am believe in the process of thinking, I take in many opinions and evaluate them, I accept all kinds of ideas without jumping to any one of them, I evaluate all aspects and think thoroughly when I plan; but I dont overthink, I dont let meaningless worries hold me back from do what I believe is worthwhile. I believe this is my best quality, and it will assist me greatly in my future.
