Multipurpose Excellence Vocational Training Center
Explain your idea in details:
Due to high rate of unemployment in Cameroon, most graduates and high school leavers end up doing menial jobs that don't even relate to their study fields or even jobless. Also, the education acquired is mostly theory based, due to the lack of equipped practical workshops and minimal industries for hands on training to enhance skills. This idea is aimed at creating a multipurpose vocational training center for young Cameroonians (mostly indigenes from the northwest rural villages) who wish to engage into any of the four training departments; Agriculture, Information technology, Arts and design and Sports. Agriculture: The intention of this department is to offer a maximum of 3years training on market gardening and poultry farming. Art and design: This department intends to offer a maximum of three years training in fashion designing, welding and carpentry. Information technology: This section intends to offer a maximum of 2 years in documentation, graphic designing, soft ware applications and maintenance and internet. Sports: This department intends to train people in athletics, Football and volleyball, for a maximum of 3 years Each training department is intended to have both class work (depending on the program) and practical workshops. Each workshop will be equipped adequately and qualified professional trainers employed. Food crop Gardens and poultry farms will be established. Sport training grounds and materials will also be made available . We intend to liaise the trainees with other similar industrial sectors for further skills. Each department will have its own entry requirements, ranging from apprenticeship to high school graduates. After completion of training, candidates will be certified to establish and manage businesses or get employed to a company depending on their training.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
This idea if executed is going to have the following impacts on sustainable development. 1. Technical skills acquired by the people through this training are going to enable them to establish and manage their own small businesses or get employed to a company. This is going to reduce greatly the level of poverty and unemployment. 2. The training program gives room for both sex to acquire different skills. This means that women will also be trained and certified to establish and manage businesses or get employed to any company based on their skill. This target will help reduce gender inequality. 3. The socio- political crisis that has been going on since 2016 in the two English speaking regions of Cameroon has caused a lot of unemployed youths to go radical against the government. Creating this training center and educating them on the benefits and skills required to start up a businesses, will bring them together again. After the training period, we intend to evaluate each candidate based on comprehensive performance and end of course project. After graduation, we intend to award the best three in each department with a start up capital ( except for sports). In the case of sports, we intend to register them into national football and athletic competitions where candidates will showcase their talents and get noticed by football and other athletic clubs. These targets are going to interconnect these rural communities with other cities thereby bringing about development.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
This idea is already in its planning stage. The project will comprise of a four section infrastructure, including class rooms ( if necessary) and training workshops. Each workshop will be equipped with the required machines and instruments for practicals. Part of the infrastructure will include departmental offices and a conference hall. A poultry section is going to be constructed away from the main campus alongside other agricultural facilities. The land required for the construction of the infrastructure and practical training grounds has been donated by the traditional ruler of the locality. We intend to carry out a fund raising for this project and we also intend to solicit funds from external sources to timely implement this idea. Our goal is to enroll the first batch of trainees in spring 2021. The people of the locality have unanimously agreed to provide labour force during the construction of the infrastructure. While we begin this life changing project, we pray to God for strength, collaboration and most importantly funding partners because on our own, we can do nothing.
I am a young male Cameroonian of age 27 and a Bsc. Hons in Biochemistry. I hail from Bamenda, in the north west region of Cameroon. I have been working as a pharmaceutical quality control analyst for the past five years. I have also been teaching part time classes in chemistry. My parents are market gardeners and I have spent my childhood and secondary school life around them. I have been motivated to carry out this project because I find my people wanting. They love to invest in the above activities but lack the skills, which always lead them to little output. We should not depend on the government or other employers for a living. We should be able to create jobs and employ others. For sustainable development to be achieved, one needs to ask his or herself what he or she has done to the community, not the reverse. This is my motivation and that is what I'm striving at.
