Flip Flops for Fostering Peace
Explain your idea in details:
We are planning to produce surfing boards using locally available raw materials & local manpower. We want to sell the product in local market as well as importing to other countries. We want to use the scrap rubber materials like worn shoes, flip-flops, bottles, coconut shells & other leftover goods that can be easily collected in the coastal areas. Our three main objectives are keeping the coastal area clean, employing youths & branding Cox's Bazar as a new surfing destination all over the world. We are focusing on employing Rohingya youths to our project. Since they are left out from being engaged in any type of long term productive work, we believe through this employment we can keep them away from drug selling & other negative activities. The use of scrap materials will keep our coastal areas clean & boost clean & green tourism. If we be able to provide surfing boards at a cheaper rate, then more people will be interested in this sports. Eventually through surfing the country will get a new element to get branded to the outer world. Since we will focus more on using recycling materials our production cost will be lower. We'll provide surfing training to our workers while they are off duty. This will provide them an extra source of income in the tourist season. We are also planning to reach out to flip-flop manufacturers to collect their leftover materials that can be used in our production.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Goal 8: Decent Work & Economic growth. Target 8.3: development oriented policies & 8.6: Youth in employment & training. We are going to ensure sustainable development policies through this project. We are going to ensure decent work environment for youths & enhance their capability to work in effective way. Since this project is a new idea to be implemented in this country, seeing our success more people will be inspired to initiate similar type of projects. Goal 9: industry, Innovation, infrastructure. Target 9.2: Inclusive & Sustainable industries & 9.3: Small scale industries. Being the pioneer of surfing boards manufacturers & user of all recyclable raw materials we believe our project falls into SDG goal 9. Initially we are depending on small investment & small scale production which fulfills the target 9.3 also. The innovative uses of leftover materials give us a strong base to support SDG goal 9. Goal 12: Responsible consumption & Production, Target 12.5 reduction, recycling, reuse Our idea strongly supports SDG goal 12 & specifically on target 12.5. Because we are planning to collect waste materials left on the sea shores & coastal areas. So are keeping the environment clean & reducing the pollution creating elements. We will recycle all those collectibles to make our products & provide the customers as a newly branded item. Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, Target 16.2: End of abuse, exploitation & violence against children. Since the underprivileged youths are vulnerable & remain under constant threat of getting exposed to violence & extremism, we are planning to provide skill development program through our project. The youths of Rohingya community are also our target group of youths who need to be educated as they always stay under exploitation & frustration.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
We are planning to ask for financing from Grameen bank initially as the production will start on a small scale in the primary stage. The production plant will be established in Cox's bazar area. We will take a rented property for our usage. Initially after providing three months training, the youths will go for the production. Our target market is the tourists & water sports enthusiasts, so we will set up our showrooms near the sea beaches. For the cost reduction, our showrooms will be basically beach shacks at initial level. We'll ask for collaboration with Bangladesh tourism ministry. We will reach our target market through ads & promotional offers in different social media platforms. We will reach out influential travel bloggers to promote our product. Well set promotional price for the first few months keeping a low margin. As the revenue starts growing well eventually increase the price. We are planning to collaborate with the local surfing clubs to use & promote our products to their members. We are planning to collaborate with sports ministry for taking initiative to include surfing as one of their nurtured sports item. The value proposition of our product will be local products at an affordable rate. Initially well sell the finished product direct to the customers. With the growth of business, we'll go for franchising in other areas. Our after sales service will target to have a lifelong relationship with the customers so that they can replace their worn out boards with the newer ones.
