Explain your idea in details:
Farmers are often lack of education and hardly aware about technical aspects related to farming. Use of traditional methods in farming leads to inefficiencies and often times have negative effects on communities for example reduced crop yield, overuse of resources, overuse of pesticide causes diseases like asthma. Our aim is to provide every farmer best farming practices. We will collect all the relevant data about the farming process like : Soil quality, Climatic conditions, Input usage, Disease risk ... We collect it using sensors. After we stock it in a cloud platform, then we use machine learning algorithms to analyse it and finally determine and display optimum actions for the farm via a mobile app. The technology we employ : 1 - Imaging and sensor technology for extracting data 2 -Cloud services (for data's stockage) 3 -Digital systems such as machine learning, control systems, big data for the predictions 4 - Costumer-facing software (here a mobile application) . Our solution doesn't need any hard infrastructure, but only internet and cheap equipment like sensors.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Our idea is connecting a large number of farmers of varying conditions, using that data to make better judgments of what works best in different situations. As more farms get connected, the data keeps on growing to make it more efficient. Our idea will provide solutions that will improve the economic and environmental performance of productions. It will facilitate the realization of the work thanks to a personalized and non-standardized control. It will control the consumption of resources (inputs, electricity, water, finance, etc.) to better produce. it's the right dose, at the right time and in the right place. In terms of benefits, we find also : 1 - an improved working comfort 2 - a better crop management 3 - input savings which, better distributed, are better valued 4 - a better use of inputs and therefore a lower impact on the environment .
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Initially, we plan to work with big farm holders to reach economies of scale and gather more data at once. We still need to figure out on working with small farm holders. We are currently exploring different options like community-based farming, cooperative structure and leasing of equipment. We are exploring different ways to monetize our solution. It will be different for different crops, different regions, condition of farmers. Few ways we are considering are: 1 - Charging for recommendations on season/crop basis 2 - Charging on production basis (Fraction of total yield/ Profit from total yield) 3 - Charging for disease & pest prevention services (per season/instance basis) 4 - Sale/Leasing of equipment. 5 - Data monetization .
My name is Mohmar and I am a student in computer science engineering. I am 22 years old and from THIES. My main asset is self control . I always say this: "If you lose self-control everything will fall". I started in the entrepreneurship at a young age to always contribute to the development of my country. My objective is to help farmers with my knowledge. It is in this context that I thought about this project. I also want to ensure a share of the food security of my country. So by combining farming and technology, food production will be more efficient.
