Explain your idea in details:
***PROBLEM & NEED*** People use 5 trillion plastic bags per year! Thats 160,000 plastic bags per second! And over 700 a year for every single person on the planet. We can do better than that! Conventional plastic bags cause marine pollution and stay in the environment for up to 1000 years. We are on a mission to change that! ***SOLUTION*** Im a researcher from Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden and have invented an environmentally-friendly carrier bag which is 100% compostable, biodegradable and totally non-toxic. My patent-pending innovation is all about minimizing the environmental impact of conventional petroleum-based plastic bags by making an environmentally-friendly alternative. I do that by using ABUNDANT, CHEAP and RENEWABLE plant resources, mainly coming from agricultural-waste and non-edible plants. PlasticFri is 100% compostable, biodegradable, non-toxic and compliant with the European standard EN 13432. ***VALUE PROPOSITION*** My solution is: +++ 100% made from plants (not oil) +++ Derived from abundant, cheap, renewable plant resources +++ 100% Compostable +++ 100% Biodegradable +++ 100% non-toxic +++ Reduces CO2 emission of production by 86% +++ The GREENEST alternative for conventional plastic bags with the lowest environmental impact.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
PlasticFri directly fits to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 as well as indirectly to SDGs 3 and 6. By substituting conventional plastic bags with PlasticFri bags, we would be able to: + Save 200 million tons of CO2 emission annually + Save 100,000 marine-animals and 1 million sea birds that are killed by plastic bags annually. + Remove 2 million fossil-fuel based plastic bags every minute across the globe! PlasticFris impact is not limited to only saving CO2, but also to contribute to reducing climate change impact, ocean toxicity, food quality, eco-system disruption as well as habitat disruption. Plans for implementation and sustainability
I already have succeeded to develop and make a working-prototype which Im testing with potential users, customers and partners in order to collect feedback and reach commercialization. *** MARKET POTENTIAL *** The global market for plastic bags is valued at 20 billion $ and estimated to have a compound-annual-growth-rate (CAGR) of 17% during 2018 - 2026. This represents a huge total-addressable-market (TAM). I believe, PlasticFri has a great timing, because a lot of countries are looking into environmentally friendly alternative. *** BUSINESS MODEL *** I chose a Business-to-Business (B2B) model by selling PlasticFri bags to supermarkets, stores, shops and every company/organizations looking to enhance their brand image. *** CUSTOMERS *** Potential customers include (but not limited to) stores, shops, supermarkets and every company/organization looking to enhance their brand image. We can also offer premium-quality shopping bags to exclusive brands as well as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) departments in medium and large organizations. *** GO-TO-MARKET STRATEGY *** Selling B2B helps us to maximize our impact in a shorter time as well as making it possible to scale our business fast and efficient. We also plan to offer PlasticFri bags in 2 different forms: A) Shopping bags (in different thicknesses) B) Fruit and vegetable bags These two product types are used all over the world and are not limited by a specific geographical location. *** TRACTION *** I have followed a customer development process. So far, we have achieved: + Working prototype developed + Successful quality tests + Created a remarkable team of serial entrepreneurs and scientists with proven track record. + Business Model defined + Extensive market research conducted + Several stakeholders interviewed + Several Letters of interest received + My startup was recently selected as the top-10 cleantech starups and is currently part of European ClimateKIC accelerator program.
