Healthy water for healthy cities

We have developed an innovative approach to an old, existing problem that many factories are facing.Some of them even recklessly throw the lead and manganese in water so they are polluting also the water that is used for drinking. Since there are many comprehensive analyses and technologies that have to be done to reduce lead and manganese from drinking water. Apart from the fact that humans are not the only victims from higher concentrations of toxic heavy metals in water. But those factories which are determined to protect the water use many complex reaction mechanisms consists of a number of chemical reactors which are very expensive.In order to eliminate only one of these two toxic heavy metals (lead and manganese), they are exposed to use more than two reactions, that results with spending more time. In context of this, spending more money is not excluded as the reactors and filters are much more expensive. We have come up with one easy, economical, affordable chemical reaction that eliminates manganese and lead from water with only putting hydrogen peroxide and potassium permanganate: KMnO4 + H2O2 + Pb(NO3)2 -----> MnO2 + PbO2 + KNO3 + O2 In this reaction occurs precipitation of the two problematic metals for factories, we filtrate the solution and it is environmentally friendly water without Manganese and Lead.That can be omitted in the environment safely, without consequences. Through the functioning of fuel factories as a result they got toxic metals which are useless and toxic products. So, we are recommending making a solution of heavy metals and water with using our reaction they can abbreviate not one but two toxic metals in the same time (lead and manganese). The art of our project is that a very big problem can be solved in a very easy way.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
First of all, we are going to help the population that lives near industrial areas, since they are mostly affected by useless products (toxic heavy metals-lead and manganese) of industrial processes that factories are releasing in the water. Our local research in Republic of North Macedonia shows us that 2/3 of fuel factories release toxic heavy metals in Vardar River. We made a survey of the population in City of Veles and from 100 respondents, 89 of them wanted a solution, that the factories will use to stop releasing toxic heavy metals so they will not pollute their water. Thats how we understood their needs for clean water and healthy environment. But directly we want to help to fuel factories which now they are spending much more for the same purpose- abbreviating heavy metals.In context of this we are offering our chemical mechanism that will reduce their costs, and of course we will have healthy environment. The fact that with using this mechanism will be prevented huge amount of diseases, we are affecting the whole population (higher concentrations in drinking water results with increased level of sterility and anemia for 5% in City of Veles).
Plans for implementation and sustainability
We are contributing by developing innovative chemical reaction that allows industrial objects, especially fuel factories that releases lead and manganese, to rid of these heavy metals with one effective reaction.Needed reactors for our chemical mechanism are potassium permanganate-KMnO4 (price for cleaning 1L of water= 0,18$) and hydrogen peroxide-H2O2 (price for cleaning 1L of water=5,17$) in Republic of North Macedonia. This makes our solution beneficial for factories as a result they save money, time and resources. Factories are using many chemical reactions that are much expensive and less effective than our reaction for the same purpose. We come up that only with 5.5$ we will clean 1 L contaminated water with Lead and Manganese. Since we are not declared as organisation, we are going to raise our voice through the TV and social media in order to make easy approach to the population and directly to affect the local government. By making low proposal that will correspond and support this method of eliminating heavy metals from water as equal as other methods intended for fuel factories. Sustainability will be shown by our promoting(workshops campaigns, panel discussions, leaflets, etc.) of factories that will use our solution in order for them to get better place in market. Theres triple benefits: - first for factories-marketing , -second for us taking financial resources from factories, -and third raising awareness of the managers of fuel factories, fighting for healthy environment.
Our team consists of two members on age of 18 and 19 years.We are enthusiastic and optimistic, students of University of general medicine, future doctors.Our primary goal through the whole medical high school education was reaching the highest level of success in nursing. We have been attending and winning many competitions such as MEF international competition for innovations in microbiology that we have won the third place, also we took two times in a row first place in national competition for start up business and innovations in Republic of North Macedonia. All the projects that we were working on were medical and scientifically based .
