Explain your idea in details:
The purpose of this project is to advocate for decentralization of big cities in China. There has been a heated discussion on problems brought by steep increase of population. The urban agglomeration is especially obvious in metropolitan cities like Beijing and Shanghai. Through this project we want to education citizens on side effects of urban agglomeration. We will run workshops in big cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou to introduce the current situation of urban agglomeration. On the other hand, we will reach out to the local communities and government and conduct surveys on factors that impact people's decisions on relocation. We'd like to know the main factors that influence peoples relocation decisions and propose them to stakeholders.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
The target of our project include local citizens in big cities as well as government and stakeholders. City decentralization encourages the development of suburban areas and rural areas. These marginalized areas in China have abundance natural resources and sustainable and clean energy. The migration of industries and infrastructure into the marginalized areas in China can also in return boost up employment rate and economics. As the result, the gap between central cities and rural regions will be shortened or closed. It will also balance or reduce the carrying capacity of population and resource depletion in metropolitan cities. Thus we need to first educate citizen on the benefits of city decentralization and second talk to stakeholders and discuss the possibility of maintaining the same standard of living in rural areas if city citizens decide to relocate.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Our project will introduce how the technical establishment will help increase the carrying capacity in underdeveloped areas. We will teach citizens updated knowledges on incentives and benefits governments will provide to relocating to suburban areas. We will reach out to tech companies to discussion possible services they can provide to satisfy the living needs in suburban or rural areas. We may also want to discuss with department of education on basic technical education they will support in rural areas and make the cooperation between developed areas and developing or developed areas possible. We also want to advocate for the reuse of old or wasted infrastructure in cities and renovated them into a new welfare or recreational facilities. For the development of rural regions, the construction of transportation infrastructure will of be one of the top priorities we want to address with city planning department. In addition, resource shortage and pollution are sever problems in big cities. We will run workshops in local communities to encourage people to recycle recoverable waste resources and make use of wasted agricultural land. We hope to raise peoples awareness of energy conservation through public activities like Earth Hour Project and suggest daily living plans for local citizens to efficiently utilize renewable resources.
