Hafety (Happiness & Safety)
Explain your idea in details:
We strive to create a safe environment where everyone is safe and in control of their decisions and happiness. With itinerary planner on the Hafety App, a personalized unique experience is generated depending on the budget and preferences of the tourist. This gives tourists a sneak peek of the upcoming experiences. Using the Budget generator feature, the app generates an estimation of the money the whole trip will take with regard to local prices which will be updated in real-time. This helps tourists from being overcharged which usually happens at destinations. Once the app has created an experience for a tourist and the budget it will require, they can choose to find a tour operator. Upon clicking on Find An Operator, trusted tour operators who are on the platform will get notified, examine the experiences personalized by the tourist and submit their bids. The tourist then will make a choice from all bids. The prices will be close to what the app generated, it can increase depending on luxury. Next, the app connects tourists to their chosen credible, certified operators trained in hospitality and tourism whose prices match their budget. This will ensure their safety from fraudsters and deliver amazing experiences. Budgeting and Planning itinerary in advance will give tourists a wide range of choices while empowering them to stay in control of their happiness, rather than having their experiences placed in operators hands. Connecting them to credible operators (who are verified before they can be allowed on the platform) will protect tourists from all the fatalities such as accidents, drowning, and even simple things like robbery and being overcharged. Mission: We strive to create a safe environment where everyone is safe and in control of their decisions and happiness. Tagline: SAFE and IN CONTROL (of your trip)
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
Research shows that Between January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2015, there were 3,121 tourist fatalities reports. As seen with many other studies, transportation-based fatalities were among the highest recorded with 875 (28%) incidents. The idea touches on the third SDG, Good Health and Well-Being. Creating secure environments by connecting tourists to professionals who ensure their well-being. It also aligns with the goal 18 which is indicated in the competition: Sustainable Tourism. Rwanda recorded a total of 1.2 million Tourist arrivals in 2017. The app will be tested in the Rwandan market, the country we know best. This is a growing market. 13% of the tourists are international, 87% are regional. The focus is on mostly international tourists since they are the ones who are likely to be taken advantage of. We plan to partner with Rwanda Tours and Travel Associations, RTTA, which was founded in the year 2000 by a small group of Rwandan Tours & Travel operators concerned about the quality of tourism services in the country. It has about 104 members who are highly professional. Some of our targets are to acquire most international users, have all 104 tour operators from Rwanda (certified by RTTA) accessible in one place. This means most bookings will be done on our platform. We will have most of the 13% of international arrivals using the app in the first year by giving companies a way to keep their customers on the Hafety app. We will apply several Marketing techniques: ASO, SEO, Google ads, targeted ads, content marketing, Growth hacking, and so on, targeting India, Belgium, The United States of America, UK, and Germany which are the countries with most arrivals. We will measure everything such as App downloads, Signups, revenues, blog hits, social media paid ads, and so on.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Hafety ensures tourists safety and great experiences by connecting them to the most professional tour operators in the country and giving them a wide range of choices through bidding. The platform ensures safety as it is a gatekeeper against fraud operators who rob tourists and overcharge them, not to mention causing some of the accidents. Hafety is a two-sided network of tourists and tour operators which creates value by giving tourists choices, the luxury that is usually enjoyed by corporations when they put out tenders and have service providers bidding. Not only that, the bidders on Hafety are highly professional people who are certified, and as a result, the prices are very low while the quality of service gets very high. Customers are able to create budgets, make itineraries with the help of the Hafety app. Once they submit to various operators, they will get many bids, and then choose one. Once they have chosen one, they will pay a booking fee. Hafety gets a small percentage of the whole price. Key activities: building the platform and acquiring customers. We will acquire the first customers through marketing and by allowing tour operators to keep their existing customer base and allow them to refer their friends to them. Resources: finances: capital, Human Capital: software engineers. The source of funding: savings, seed investors, angel investors. Key partners: Tour operators, hotels, private tour guides (RTTA), Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Tour Companies, private tour guides, hotels & restaurants. Cost structure: the money will be spent on building the platform, acquisition of users and on new technologies that enable efficient data collection as we prepare for the future.
My name is Maxime Munyampirwa, an entrepreneur, communication and marketing enthusiast, author and poet from Kigali, Rwanda. I was born right after the genocide, on December 02, 1994. My mother instilled an entrepreneurial and responsible mindset in me at a very young age. Every time I ignored a task that was usually not even assigned to me, She would always say, Ntugatume ibyawe byangirika which translates into, Dont let anything that involves you fall apart, even when youre not the one responsible. So I would always look for solutions to all problems that affected me even in the smallest ways. My favorite quote is Be the change that you wish to see in the world. Mahatma Gandhi. Every time I encounter a challenge, I recall that quote and it alleviates the frustration while triggering creative ideas to tackle that challenge. I loved the entrepreneurship course in secondary school. My mother started a restaurant, she asked me to help her run it, and I applied everything I had learned about entrepreneurship in her business. In 2015 I was surfing, I stumbled on a facebook post from Strive Masiyiwa about entrepreneurship, I got so inspired that I went back to read most the previous posts, and from there I have not stopped learning about entrepreneurship. In 2016, it was my second year at the University of Rwanda, I started a platform for Rwandan artists. It allowed fans to vote for great songs and other artworks, we also organized events. I closed the platform a year later. I worked with RG Consult Inc, a marketing firm based in Rwanda, part-time for four years. I received a certificate of appreciation for organizing a competition, Indashyikirwa Elites Competition at the University of Rwanda in November 2016.
