SCHI-CLOVER (A facility to Enhance the Quality of Life for Schizophrenic Patient)
Explain your idea in details:
My main objective is,Identifying if a patient is schizophrenic or not,Collect more visual and accurate information about every individual patient by monitoring them with a surveillance system. What i have created includes 17 cases by which schizophrenic patients can be treated/controlled without medicine. Activities: After surveying a sample group of patients symptoms, I made 17 Cases which includes 1677 test cases & scenarios which application concluding that, schizophrenia is a forcefully accepted behavior nothing more than that. So this systems task includes : 24/7 Video Monitoring of a patient in a controlled environment & apply those cases to patient for Identifying their reaction's and Manipulate behavioral attributes via sound wave. By using the combination of both case studies and this device will act as a conceptually created natural reference which can manipulate a patient's behavior in REAL TIME. I'm combining directional sound transmitter with a micro controller for redirecting & transmitting a carefully measured sound wave towards the patient via image processing at the time of the occurrence(real time). This will impact a patient who is disturbed by any natural effect (like hallucination,anxiety etc) and at the time of occurrence my device will transmit a sound wave to the patient and manipulate his/her behavior. A Camera, image processing based desktop software collects & store's data from the test subjects. Innovative approaches : Directional Sound is a revolutionary innovation in science. My approach was to use this technological device as a Schizophrenic Patients treatment instrument. Total device setup includes :A sound reflection diffuse room & a directional sound transmitter for transmitting sound waves at the top of patients head by measuring patients current position in a defined domain,PC software with Tone generator(Sine waves), 24/7 Recording Facilities, Image Processing for identifying patient movement & actions.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
People with schizophrenia are 2-3 times more likely to die early than the general population. In perspective of Bangladesh identifying schizophrenia is a real challenging issue, More than 90% patients are mislead because of the lack of proper diagnosis & also lack of proper knowledge about a patient. My target is to focus on this understanding gap to walk towards a patients betterment. And also making a clinical facility where there will be proper guideline for treating schizophrenic patient. My target includes : 1) Identify schizophrenic patient's 2) Build a controlled observation center for patients 3) Survey about new symptoms & signs for gathering more information about this disease and create a data set so that before treating a patient psychiatrist can have this knowledge base reference to work with. 4) And my ultimate goal is to help every patient to enhance their quality of life. Evaluate success : Doctors do not have that much time to talk with a patient. When a patient came to them they do not even have proper knowledge about a patient mental conditions. They just have to ask patients or their relatives some questions and prescribe some medicine (Mostly sleeping or some ordinary medicines). Those who do not have enough money, go to government hospitals and there is no way they can get proper treatment,they got 15 to 20 minutes window to express their conditions. So this facility will help everyone in that domain. Patients just have to spend some times in this facilities & my device will fetch all the information during the procedure. So we can get a lot of data regarding behavioral reactions & depth of information about each patient & use those information as a trigger for their life.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Build a patient's monitoring facility which includes: 1) 24/7 monitoring facilities with primary clinical support & with 10 to 20 patients accommodation facilities in first phase. 2) There should be Technological developers ->Programmer(Software Support), Embedded engineer(For hardware support & automation),Data Center(For collecting patient data), Image Processing Expert(Visual analysis), Device setup & Utility sections. 3) Emergency unit(For controlling stage 3 patients). 4) Psychiatrist(Who can diagnose patients) or Doctors 5) Accounts & HR departments (For maintaining donations & man power) 6) Voluntary people & Other Volunteers for supporting patients. Financing Source: At initial development phase it took around 2400$ (USD) for R&D purpose. But if we look into any existing private clinic or organization who have the facilities for treating a patient, and for a single patient it will cost around 3250$(USD) per month, which is way too expensive. But if we can make the device as a batch and make the facility as a whole service point then the total cost can be minimized & any type of patients can be treated easily. Though initial investment for this facility will be high but it will be sustainable within a year. Financing source from: 1) Government Finance 2) Voluntary Investment 3) Contribution from Non Profit Organizations. Mostly those can be financing source. Collaborators : 1) Mental health related researchers 2) Psychiatrist's 3) Individual personnel's willing to contribute from any sector 4) Biomedical Engineers Any type of support is welcome which can elevate the system.
I'm a 27 years old software developer currently working as .NET Developer in a private organisation. Basically my motivation comes from my mother. She was a schizophrenic patient for over 11 years who suffered a lot. We did everything we could clinically, but it didn't work out because in Bangladesh there is no proper treatment facilities for treating schizophrenic patients. Existing facilities provide their patient a lot of sleep and hormonal medicine. We kept my mother at those hospital but after 2 weeks she couldn't even recognize us. At that time i felt the treatment procedure is not right as doctors do not gather enough information about a patient in depth to assess and identify accurately where the main problem is.This was the only motivation when i started to study with schizophrenia and its symptoms. I also started to study her symptoms very closely and suddenly found out she is very responsive in sound. So i did some test run with sounds and found out some frequencies which can manipulate her state. So i felt at that time if I could automate this procedure it may help her to recover or at least give her some peace of mind. I developed it through over a year and i used a 3D camera + Directional Sound transmitter + Tone generator + Case Studies + a PC software. And then i applied this on my mother as well as on other patient i found out some promising result. Bringing me the motivation that this can be a monitoring facility for patients.
