Objective : My objective behind this idea is to encourage & educate everyone to travel consciously, being respectful towards the environment. Irrespective of backpackers, luxury travelers or hitch hikers &while doing this, I also want to generate financial support to locals being ecological and economical. Activity & Innovative Approaches : My idea is to build a platform to design experiences for sustainable travelling. We focus on 3 basic things we need while travelling & ways to implement them to achieve sustainable development goals: 1) Mode of Travel - When traveler chooses mode of transport from place of origin to destination, he/she will be able to calculate the amount of the Co2 emission happening with option they choose. Considering this they can choose comparatively greener mode of transport from the available options. After this step, they will find innovative ways to make travel greener, applying those ideas. Depending upon the carbon-footprints being added to the environment through travel, he/she can compensate those footprint by donating to organizations who work to keep the balance of environment. 2) In local transport & local excursions - For Mobility within the city you are travelling to, this platform will provide options of green travel. To explore the place,this platform will provide options of different walking tours, bicycle tours for zero Co2 emission considering tourists interest. 3) Stay and food - This platform will provide sustainable options of accommodations like home-stays with local people, Eco-hostels, camping tents. This platform will provide details of source of food, energy suppliers at those stays. This platform will also provide maps with options to choose from restaurants which use only local products & believe in zero wastes while travelling. There will be options to use food delivery apps which believe in zero wastes, which also gives financial support to locals.
Expected impact of your idea on sustainable development
As we know sustainable travel is becoming a big boom in tourism industry and so many travel companies are potraying Green Travel in false way of "Green-washing". Green-washing is about using marketing strategies in an effort to deceive customers into believing that a company's products, activities, or policies are genuinely Eco-friendly when they really aren't. Target: 1) To get rid of Green-washing and create complete transparency of impact of your every stage of travel. 2) Due to this transparency, more people will be encouraged to travel through sustainable ways. 3) This will create economical support and numerous financial opportunities for the local people. 4) This will slowly create more consciousness towards sustainable travel in the world, in any type and every level (beginner or experienced) of traveler. 5) Through this we will contribute towards keeping those tourist places safe, which can be explored by our next generations. 6) So considering current goals, this platform will contribute towards making tourism more ecological and economical by following basic rules of sustainable tourism and social impact travel. Measure To Success: 1) We will bring this transparency by providing exact results through realistic ecological footprint calculation. At the end of the year, with the results we declare, we can calculate amount of Co2 emission we avoided using this platform. 2) Also we can present the amount of opportunities we could create for local people by connecting them with travelers. 3) As we will be doing tracked compensation, we will provide proofs e.g number of plants planted and taken care of, the amount invested in generating financial opportunities for locals. 4) We will collect and publish unbiased and transparent data & feedback collecting through surveys, in-depth individual or group interviews, administrative record-keeping. 5) We will give the proofs of implemented solutions after receiving feedback from travelers or collaborators.
Plans for implementation and sustainability
Business Model: As per the detail's provided in the previous sections, the type of this business model will be "Peer to Peer" or "Multi Sided" in which number of parties will be involved in every stage of business and we will keep on expanding our network, while doing that we will connect to each individual traveler and further connect with any individuals involved in this business. Finance: As this will be Zero Profit organizations as per the plan, we will opt for below mentioned ways for financial support: 1) Bootstrapping 2) Advertisements of organic and Eco-friendly travel essential products. 3) Campaigns to create awareness of sustainable tourism & raising money through those campaigns. 4) Donations from conscious people about sustainability. 5) Bartering 6) Government Grants Collaborations: As I mentioned, this project is having "Multi Sided" or "Peer to Peer" business model so there will so numerous collaborations with different type of organizations at every stage of business: 1) Mode of travel A) For transport there will be collaborations with all the train services, bus services, airlines and car sharing platforms. B) For carbon footprint calculations, collaboration with the best available Co2 emission calculator. C) For compensation of Co2 emission collaboration with organizations working for Ecology & Economy balance. 2) In Location Transport and Excursion A) For location transport: Collaborations with local bicycles, e-bikes, all green transport organizations. B) For local excursions: Collaboration with walking trips, bicycle tours, boat tours. C) For local products and souvenir: Collaborations with local artists and Eco product makers. 3) Stay and Food A) For stay : Collaborations with local hosts, Eco hostels, tent places to rent. B) For food: Collaborations with hosts, restaurants who cook using local organic products and follow zero waste policy. Also collaboration with food delivery app which support zero waste policy resulting in less Co2 emission.
My name is Prajakta Alase. I am 29 years old. I am born and brought up in a small Indian village named Kurundwad in Maharashtra state . I am raised in a village full of nature, organic food from farms, having life with basic necessities. After Bachelors in Engineering, I started working in an IT field. Since childhood, I have always loved travelling and exploring new places. I moved to Germany three years back to work as a Team Lead and Process Consultant with a company named Vattenfall which produces Green Energy in Europe with as less as Co2 emission. Budget friendly travelling on every weekend gradually became part of life. Traveling taught me many lessons. One of the biggest lesson I learnt is to respect environment while exploring the world if you want our next generation to see that beauty as well. So I started following every step I could for sustainable travelling and started looking for more ways to make it better. This led me to think of planning for Masters in Sustainable Tourism at well known Ostelea School of Tourism & Hospitality in Barcelona. I am hoping to encourage more people for sustainable travelling and make the world better and livable for next generations. I am creating this platform to spread awareness about sustainable tourism and impact of irresponsible travelling in every corner of the world. The aim of my life is to educate more and more people about sustainability through this platform and create ecological and economical balance in the world. Also On fun note my current short term life goal is to visit "30 Before 30 " , I want to visit 30 Countries before I turn 30 with as less as Co2 emission :-) Lets Make World Better Together!!
