Women Empowerment and Career in Nigeria(WECAN)
Explain your project in details:
WECAN is a women socio-economic empowerment group poised to make sure that women of the world, especially African women fulfill purpose, create wealth and have their voices heard socially, academically, financially and in every phase of living. African women should not survive but should make a good living; African women should not just be seen but should also be heard, Africa women should not just be confined to the kitchen but also be an economic pillar for her family and society at large; Africa women should not be segregated but celebrated. WECAN started as a Facebook group March 1st 2019 and had since been giving women access to: Skill acquisition and education , wealth creation opportunities , employment ,scholarship opportunities, safe work environments, participation in economic, religious, political and social activities in their communities, freedom to make financial, health and social choices that affect them positively etc. We currently have about 12 Nations represented on the platform and this cause has fast been impacting lifes. WECAN skill training whuch initially started on the facebook had extented to Whatsapp groups where women have been trained on skills and Entrepreneurial Development courses with excellent post training effectiveness. In just 2 months, WECAN has physically visited two states to facilitate skill training in Lagos and Osun. Our mission is to make lifes of Afri an wome better through Sharing ,Learning and information exchange. This group is a support group for all women irrespective of their background, colour, race, culture or status. Our goal is to create a better life for Nigerian women and the world at large.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Women Empowerment in Nigeria still lies at its lowest ebb. WECAN is that incubator for the future of African women. Tradition has marred and trapped vast majority of African women in the scourge of FULL HOUSE WIFE syndrome. WECAN in 2 months have been able to transform lives of over 200 Housewives through our whatsapp skill acquisition training. Our aim is to Transform by Transfer and that has been achieved through our first batch of training and the second batch is currently popularly demanded . Our post training assessment has been very excellent has acquired knowledge are being put to economic use by participants. WECAN has also been addressing Sugar Daddy syndrome which has evolved into "Small girl Big God Syndrome" in Nigeria. It is ravaging the younger Nigerian women today from the ages of 9 to 19 years. WECAN holiday summit for girls was a successful retreat as young girls were trained, coached and assigned mentors so as to grow up to be self reliant African women.
Sustainability and future plans
WECAN is currently being runned by passionate individuals and in a short time we have been able to attract well meaning individuals, local government, organisations and religious bodies. We have been given the platform to share our vision, tell our stories and air our views and this for us is the biggest gift we will always crave for. We hope to have partnerships with government agencies, corporate bodies and individuals to help facilitate all our projects - Training and skill acquisition, employment and scholarship opportunities, Full house wife projects, sugar daddy projects , girl child eduprojects etc. We anticipate to open Women Skill acquisition and Entrepreneurial Development centres in major cities Africa. Our vision is also to prepare an African girl child for the future in areas like Artificial Intelligence, robotics, and coding. This we hope to achieve with our September to Remember Coding for kids retreat in Lagos. Also we plan to sponsor girls that are less privileged to attend schools with offers and donations.
