Explain your project in details:

Breaking Violent Cycles in Kaduna State Nigeria aims to enhance peaceful coexistence and reduction of youths violence by strengthening inter-ethnic and interreligious tolerance across divides. The project will address this problem by promoting and supporting the role of youth in peace-building activities that will contribute to peaceful coexistence. It shall be leveraging youths interest in sports, arts, and social media to build acceptance, foster cooperation and teach peace-building skills aimed at discouraging youths participation in violence. This will help youths from different ethnic and religious backgrounds to see similarities among themselves rather than differences. About 250 youths from different ethnic and religious backgrounds from 15 communities across 5 conflicts affected Local Governments Areas in Kaduna state will participate in the peace building training; this will provide them with the tools they need to become more effective change makers. They will have access to facilitators, educational programs and networks that will sharpen up their conflict transformation and leadership skills. Trainings will range from content-based topics to more practical focused areas such as meditation, advocacy and peace mediation. Partnership platforms, communication and collaboration channels will be created to enable young people to constantly engage community key stakeholders and Government of Kaduna state to investigate the common problems they share and deal with them together, thus participating in a sustainable solution to youths violence in Kaduna state. This will further strengthen the role of youths in identifying and speaking up against violence, hate speech and human rights violation through sustained behavioral change. This project will be the first youth led initiative for peace restoration in Kaduna State Nigeria.

Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development

Youth are often the targets and victims of ethno-religious conflicts in Kaduna state. Either directly or caught in the crossfire, they bear the burden of economic pressures through displacement, livelihood or property destruction, or loss of household breadwinner. During the project, young people will learn how to use arts, sports, social media and music as tools to disseminate peace messages and how to engage communities by developing local projects that promote peace and inter ethnic and religious tolerance. The primary beneficiaries of the project are 250 youths between the ages of 15 and 25 years from different ethnic and religious backgrounds from communities across 5 conflict affected Local Government Areas in Kaduna State. According to Kaduna state bureau for interfaith and religious matters 2017 reports, these categories of youth can be easily influenced making them susceptible to either violence or peace depending on how they are influenced (negatively or positively). This project therefore will promote and support the role of selected youths in peace-building activities that contribute to living together in dignity and dialogue. It will equally promote the presence and role of youth as positive actors of change in peace-building process. Build the capacity of young people in leadership, personal and community development and morals to become responsible members of the society and peace advocates.Success/ Results of this project will be measured using mixed-method tools, these include:Learning needs assessments {LNA} and post training survey {PTS}Quantitative baseline and end line surveysQualitative participatory evaluation using focus groups and large group discussion.Monitoring and reporting sheetsAttendance sheetQuestioners Success stories and testimonialsOnline content SharingThe following indicators inform of expressions of change will be used to monitor qualitative behavioral impact. Sustainability and future plans

The project ensures sustainability of impacts by working with same selected target group youths over a significant period of time of one year through its partners, to achieve the intended attitudinal and behavioral changes of increased tolerance, acceptance and cooperation across ethnic and religious divides. These changes cannot be achieved through one off activities or interventions, so this project supports long term engagement in all activities through an alumni network in continuous engagement, mentoring and capacity development inputs and knowledge. The alumni network will leverage the expanded opportunities through partnership platforms, communication and collaboration channels that had been created to engage the communities, religious bodies, Government of Kaduna state and other relevant stakeholders in continuous community initiative. The knowledge of personal and community development mindset gained during the training will help further spread and sustain impacts.
