Bead art by Jane
Explain your project in details:
In regards to Social Development Goal (sdg) goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; My objective is to help youth and community to be creative with artistic ideas that can turn into successful social enterprises to eradicate poverty, unemployment and improve innovation. Bead Art making is a unique, creative way of developing innovative goods by handcraft pieces such as servietteboxes, tablemats and other extraodinary vintage treasures. Why I consider this idea is innovative and generally new in the market because from tradition people have been using plastic bags or mats to store their tissues. This Bead art skill will eliminate tradition, including plastics which are harmful to the environment. Innovative for those who want to customized and accessorizes their homes, cars, events, offices and even hotel dining. Also the Hand crafted beaded boxes is customized to ones colour, design and its beautiful accessory unlike the existing norm of wrapped paper. Another Best thing with this art piece can be used as gifts, which from experience people have bought from me to gift their loved ones. Social occasions and some hotels use glasses when presenting the serviettes which are easily breakable, this Bead art product is durable because the material used is plastic and thus lasts longer saving cost. The product is also light in weight - The product is a multipurpose. It can be used as a jewelry box and also a decoration which bring about a sense of beauty which brightens up moods.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Through bead making I have managed to sell over 500 pieces of serviettes and table mats one on one on friends, relatives and colleagues and referrals from 2013. Also Online marketing have assisted me. The major one being Jumia.com an online market in Kenya with wider market. I have also sold many country flagged serviette boxes abroad by friends buying from me and selling them in their respective diffrent country of residence. I have trained not less than 10 Youths the art and they have benefited them financially and talent wise. Emotionally Bead art reduces low self esteem. When you see people use your products you feel proud. Bead making is key in curbing challenges related Sustainable development goals (SDGs) mainly SDG Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth will it benefit youth by extension because bead work provides financial sustainability. This is because when they sell the product they get income. This will be enabled by selfemploying one self instead of relying on employment which is scarce in these modern days. Social isolation ,Social Life is improved because its available for sharing and easy to learn. When a group of youths identify themselves in the beading art interest they can meet and train each other new skills and thus socializing. SDG Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; Many youths dont know what their talents are and by doing hard crafts they realize they have a talent and utilize it to come up with a different innovative product .Youths will have an extra curriculum activity instead of involving themselves in bad or harmful practices, activities and groups. E.g. drug abuse, sexual immoralities, robbery etc thus creating a better community. Through exports, an international market will be introduced thus industry and growth of the country.

Your profile as an entrepreneur
Am from Kenya and have proffesionally studied Business management from St. Pauls University. I have been an admirer of art and beading hobby being my main motivating factor, i do beading as a Parttime time job where am a vendor in kenya online market company called Jumia, where i sell my beaded crafts and other decorative items. When i was young used to collect beads from torn shoes, clothes and make jewelry, so when i grew up i met with a friend and trained me beading and i had to study using collectable beads collected when i was young. I became more interested and started making serviette boxes and mats and sell them to friends and my mums chama/merrygo round women groups. It was generating income and thats when i decided to start beading as a business. I have managed to sell over 500pieces. I have also sold many country flaggedserviette boxes. I have also trained not less than 10 youths. The Art requires hard work and a lot of dedication, not once have I slept late to finish orders. Without dedication and hardwork I wouldnt have made the Beaded Boxes I have made so far. Not everyone ill appreciate the art of making the Bead products and so is sometimes an emotional rollercoaster. By this I learnt to not always will close friends, family, relatives and some clients will appreciate what you do, but self-drive, confidence, prayers for God to bless the work of your hands and hardwork is the only way which will keep you emotionally stable and happy. No short cuts in life you have to work to sustain your income. Beading like any other Art Pays back even if its not equal to the labour work done. Also there is no art that is not financially sustainable even if its small. It
