More than a nature-friendly product, the bambo straw are a natural alternative against straws plastics/man-made materials that threaten nature. Some characteristics: Handcrafted - from the harvesting of bamboo to the end of the production process; Reuse - the customer uses, sanitizes and carries in the bag to reuse when they want; Durable - service life of more than 2 years; Lightweight and sturdy - do not break when falling on the floor; Biodegradable - the disposal of bamboo does not turn waste, it decomposes and becomes nutrient to the earth; Sustainable - from a renewable and sustainable source; 100% natural - there is no use of agrochemicals in the cultivation of our bamboos In times of ecological solutions to environmental problems in the world, especially for the oceans, bamboo straw is a natural product, coming from nature and that can replace the use of plastic straws.

Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development

In 5 months that we produce the bamboo straws, we have already sold more than 1000 straws. In a recent estimate here in Brazil, if each Brazilian uses a plastic straw per day, in one year more than 75 billion have been consumed. I believe that in those 5 months, me and my little team (my girlfriend, friends and my parents) managed to reduce the number of plastic straws consumed a little. This is my biggest achievement. We have also participated in some ecological events, where we can talk and raise awareness with many people so they can rethink the use of plastic straws, even if here in Rio de Janeiro, they are already banned.

Sustainability and future plans

I want to continue working with the bamboo straws and create other ecological products that are alternatives to use against disposable products. For this, I want to have a bigger team of people who believe in these ecological products, in their importance for the health of our planet, and thus, to grow together to become an environmentally friendly company.

Your profile as an entrepreneur

I am 27 years old, and my last 7 years have been able to experience what it is to be an environmental scientist. I entered college at age 20 and graduated at age 24. I was in two environmental projects, one of them being the most special for me and what I wanted most: working on a Marine Turtle Project (at age 25 and 26). I was able to study and learn a lot in this project. In a survey, I was able to follow the necropsy of a turtle and it was shocking to see so many plastics present in his digestive tract. That was when I could see what I had always studied and read on the news. It was there that I became even more environmental scientist and felt that I should do more than I could. And so, I spent a lot of time studying and designing environmental projects, until one day I was at my grandparents' site and I saw a very large bamboo. I already knew that bamboo was a sustainable and alternative plant for wood, and I could do something about it. First I thought of making a crutch for my grandmother, because she does not walk very well. But I noticed that in this bamboo there were some small ones and it resembled straws. I thought: this may be a straw, uoow! And since that day, I have produced more than 100 straws a day with great love. :)

Raphael, you know I always think that if we eliminate plastics we eliminate cancers. Man doesn\'t know that he\'s his own enemy. Keep it up, you are a great environmentalist. Remember to start a campaign / #tag to do away with plastics.

Lambisia, nice to see you here! Thank you for your message, and how I say to you, your project is amazing! I believe that if we did each one a little for nature, it would make all the difference. The day the world finds out that with safe nature, our people will eat better, live better, breathe better, our animals will eat better, live better, breathe better. We live in a circle, everything we do good, will come back to us.

Hi Raphael, the other day I read an article about microplastics and i discovered that plastics are are the biggest menace to our environment. i appreciate what you are doing to solve this problem and I feel you are representing me in what i should have done if I were not me (the one who loves to refurbish old shoes). Keep it up and all the best. I will vote for you tomorrow. bye.

hey
great idea. I had heard about metal reusable straws but using bamboo is a great idea. Plastic straws account to a large quantity of waste and this could become an alternative to it.
All the best and hope u have a great store of environmentally friendly products.

Your idea is good and it looks it would have a great impact on society. I would appreciate it if you could vote and comment on my idea as well https://www.entrepreneurship-campus.org/ideas/24/12212/
