Marine Robot Cleaner
Explain your project in details:
Purpose: The purpose of my project is to preserve our marine environment. I am working towards Sustainable Development Goal SDG 14,Life Under Water, which aims to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. We live on a blue planet, with oceans and seas covering more than 70 per cent of the Earths surface. Oceans feed us, regulate our climate, and generate most of the oxygen we breathe. Oceans are facing threats as a result of human activity. Every year, an estimated 8 million tons of plastic waste end up in the worlds oceans. Working: M Bot,Marine Robot Cleaner is a prototype robot that can remove floating wastes from water surfaces. It is basically shaped like a boat and can be operated remotely with a radio control. It runs with 2 motors that helps the boat to move in the water. Popsicle sticks are attached to a wheel and then to the third motor to push the waste from the water bodies into the storage basket. This prototype can also be fitted with a rotatable wireless camera which can help the controller of the boat to navigate the machine from a long distance away. Solar panels can also be used instead of batteries. Although this project could plausibly restore the purity of water, it nevertheless could be the initial step taken forward towards creating a better ecosystem. Results: It was visually apparent that the Popsicle stick pushes the wastes from the water bodies into the collecting basket.
Impact of your enterprise on sustainable development
Achievements: Many government entities such as Environment Agency, Emirates Environment Group, Dubai Makers Faire, Future Entrepreneurs Abu Dhabi Chamber, Global Innovation Showcase, Department of Education and Knowledge accoladed and appreciated his prototype robot.
Sustainability and future plans
Talks are in progress to develop the prototype robot in a bigger scale with Environment Agency. Financial support will be assisted by Madar, is a global leader in renewable energy and sustainable urban development. Plans for future growth: The prototype robot is capable of collecting only a few kilograms of wastes. The prototype robot will be built in bigger scale to collect floating wastes more in quantity.
